you fight but can't sleep without each other

You slammed the door to the guest room behind you and turned the lock.

You could hear Miley's footsteps on the stairs and on the floor leading to the room. You could see her standing outside the door and you waited for that knock... but it never came. Instead, you heard the door to your shared bedroom close.

A wave of sadness came over you. The bed was perfectly made, probably because no one has slept in the room for a few weeks. The last time someone did, it was one of your cousins who came to visit you both for a couple of days. The sheets had been washed, the bed had been untouched for weeks.

You pulled the blanket back and fell back onto the bed. It was comfortable; that's why you and Miley set it up the way it is, for your guests to be comfortable and cozy when they stay.

But this isn't your room. These aren't the sheets you lay on each and every night. They felt cold and the queen-sized bed was way too big without Miley there to hold you tight and keep you warm.

You turned the light off and made yourself comfortable in bed, or as comfortable as possible. It was dark, the sun had set a couple of hours back, and without the light on and the warmth that Miley usually has, you felt empty.

You thought about unlocking the door, wondering if Miley would come inside in the middle of the night, or if you should just stop being so stubborn and go back to the bedroom yourself.

But a knock on the door interrupted your thoughts.

"Y/n?"

It was Miley.

Her voice sounded so soft, yet so sad.

You didn't even hesitate to go and unlock the door for her to come in. You didn't mind putting your pride aside if that's what it would take. You couldn't fall asleep wondering if she was mad or hurting because of the stupid fight between you two or because you locked her out. You needed her to hold you. You needed her to know how sorry you were.

The words were on the tip of your tongue but when you opened the door you were immediately pulled into Miley's arms. You melted against her. Your arms looped around her sides as hers went around your back. She held you like you needed her to; to make you feel safe, to make you feel like it was all okay.

"I'm sorry." You mumbled into the skin of her neck as you buried your face there.

"Me too."

You breathed out a sigh of relief. A weight lifted from your shoulders and it felt like you could breathe again. "I'm not just sorry for making the fight bigger than what it was, but for locking you out."

You felt her nod her head. "I know. It's alright. Let's put it behind us, okay? It's done and over with."

"Okay."

She kissed your head and let you go. You almost whined about it, because after earlier you honestly didn't even want her to let go. But she put her arm around you and you walked back to your shared bedroom together.

She pulled you into bed next to her, her arms instantly going around you to hold you as tightly and as close to her as she could. She pressed several kisses against your face, particularly against your cheeks, and as you moved your head from her shoulder and your eyes locked she finally leaned in to kiss your lips.

The way she kissed you told you it was all okay. The way she brushed her fingers through your hair and laid her other hand against your cheek made your heart flutter. She pulled away and looked you in your eyes before biting her lip with a small smile. "I love you so much."

You pecked her lips a few times then put your head back down. You felt like you could sleep, now that you were back in her arms, safe and warm. "I love you too. Sweet dreams, Miley." You whispered as you closed your eyes.

"Goodnight, my love. Sweet dreams."
