Isabel Caves is a writer from Auckland, New Zealand. She mostly writes fantasy, but also likes to dabble in science fiction, horror and literary fiction. Her debut Wattpad novel, Witch Doctors Inc, was shortlisted for the 2022 Wattys and has been featured by both Wattpad HQ and Wattpad ambassador profiles. She has also had several haiku poems published in journals, both online and in print. When she is not writing, she is usually daydreaming about magical worlds.

At what age did you realize that you have a special place for writing? Are you currently or do you ever dream of one day being in the writing industry?

>>I discovered that writing was special to me quite early on, around the time I started school. Our principal was an author of children's fiction, so we were encouraged to write stories in class to improve our language skills. "Storywriting" quickly became my favourite subject.

I've dreamed of being in the writing industry since I was a child, but I feel that things will happen when, and if, it's the right time for me.

Did any story, on or off Wattpad, inspire you ever and help you carve your interest towards writing books?

>>There are many books that inspired me to write as was growing up. I absolutely adored the Chronicles of Narnia. These books helped foster my interest in writing about magical worlds. Goosebumps and Animorphs were also favourites. These books encouraged my interest in horror and sci fi, and inspired me to write read and write more in those genres.

What is the genre(s) in which you mostly write your books? Do you think you are able to create brilliant plots when you write in that specific genre(s)?

>>I mostly write in the fantasy genre. I do feel that I'm able to cook up good plots while writing in this genre, because it always helps when you're writing what you love the most.

What advice would you like to give to authors who are writing in the same genre(s) as yours?

>>Feel free to let your imagination run wild and free! Have fun with creating your worlds, and remember that there is always time for editing later.

Do you have any favourite quote or quotes from your book?

>>I like this quote from the magical talking kitty Onyx: "You cannot change the stars in your soul. But the stars of your destiny. I do believe, are yours to wield."
