Hello fellow Wattpadders! Today we have with us wigglysubu, the author of the book, Under The Mango Trees.
I am Abhipreeti (_abhipreeti_) and I have interviewed Subalakshmi, a.k.a, wigglysubu.
Meet Subalakshmi, a designer by the day and a writer (all the time) who gets swayed by compelling stories, be it in novels or short form reels. She loves to write stories that challenges the norms while also trying her best to entertain her readers with her stupid humor. In her free time, you can find her either indulging in a little existential crisis or watching kdramas.
At what age did you realize that you have a special place for writing? Are you currently or do you ever dream of one day being in the writing industry?
>>I dreamt of being a writer pretty young, when I was around 12 years old and that's why I immediately joined Wattpad and started writing at 13 when a friend told me about it. Bless her :)
Did any story, on or off Wattpad, inspire you ever and help you carve your interest towards writing books?
>>Of course! Being a Literature student, I have been inspired by many stories, especially classics. However, on Wattpad books like "The Invincible Summer of Juniper Jones" really tickled my brain.
What is the genre(s) in which you mostly write your books? Do you think you are able to create brilliant plots when you write in that specific genre(s)?
>>Romance! Credit goes to the years of being single and watching hopelessly romantic films and dramas.
What advice would you like to give to authors who are writing in the same genre(s) as yours?
>>I would say read and watch more, especially since it's romance, it's super fun!
Do you have any favourite quote or quotes from your book?
>>I don't really recall anything special, it's been so long since I have read my own books. Maybe, some of my recent readers could tell?
Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
>>I see myself continuing to write more and more! I just don't want to stop, no matter how life happens to me.
Now let us talk about your book. How would you describe your story in five words? Could you please give us a brief summary of what your book is about? What makes your book different from other books in the same genre(s)?
>>I would describe Under The Mango Trees in just one word- inward. I tried my best in this novel to explore the inner feelings of the characters and what motivates them to take certain actions.
Which character or characters of your story do you relate to most? And why?
>>I relate to the protagonist Tulsi the most as many of her thoughts resonate with my own.
How did you come up with such a fascinating plot? Were there any inspirations?
>>The inspiration was partly from my own experiences of having crushes and never getting reciprocated. Just kidding. I wanted to capture the lives of young people in India so in that way, it is drawn from my experiences and the people around me.
How did you discover Wattpad? And what engendered you to begin writing on this platform? What do you like best about this application?
>>My childhood friend introduced me to Wattpad! And I love that it provides a platform for anyone and everyone to write. Most of my career decisions and trajectories wouldn't have gone the way it has (for better or for worse) if it wasn't for Wattpad.
When did you start writing on Wattpad? How has your writing journey been ever since then?
>>I started writing when I was 13 and it has been a joy!
What is your writing process and how do you cope when writers' block hits you?
>>I write whenever I feel this surge within me, I don't write when that feeling doesn't wash over me. That's why, I never experienced a writer's block.
Are you a pantser or a plotter? During which time of the day do you usually write?
>>A plotter- I write mostly during the night when everything is quiet around me.
What would be your advice to young and budding authors, who are just beginning their journey on Wattpad and are quite new to the writing world?
>>Just write (if the feeling comes to you!) and never think twice if it is good or not, you grow as you write.
Is there any author(s) on Wattpad whom you look up to as an amazing writer?
>>It's been so long since I have read any books here, but do check out my reading lists! You can find my favorite books and authors there.
Could we please have two or more Wattpad story recommendations? What do you like most about these stories?
>>Definitely read The Invincible Summer of Juniper Jones and The Boy in the Woods here.
What would be the three words to describe yourself as an author?
>>Somehow, I run out of words when I try to describe myself. I'll pass this on to my readers, they can be a judge of me based on my books.
Thank you so much! It was an honour to have you here for the interview conducted by Kalon Community. We wish you lots of success on your writing journey and may you flourish more. Thank you once again!
