"You must be an angel. I can see it in your eyes. Full of wonder and surprise" Lexi heard someone singing, when she walked in the cabin. "Yeah, he's the Karate Kid. Hai-yah! He's so hot, right? I bet he's an amazing kisser, too. Hey, uh...is Mike a good kisser?"
Since this was the first thing she heard, when she walked in her and El's room, she couldn't help, but grimace. "Ew Maxine, is this seriously, what you're thinking about?" Max's smile fell. Sure, it was Max, who stopped calling and basically ended things, but that didn't mean she never loved Lexi.
"I don't know. He's my first boyfriend." El replied. "Ex-boyfriend." Max corrected and El's smile faded. Great job, Maxine. "Hey, don't worry about it. Okay? He'll come crawling back to you in no time, begging for forgiveness." Lexi tried to cheer her up. "I guarantee you, him and Lucas are, like, totally wallowing in self-pity and misery right now. They're like, Oh, I hope they take us back. God, what I wouldn't give to see their stupid faces."
El smirked at Max's statement. "What is it?" Lexi asked her.
El took a bandana after explaining and covered her eyes while static sound filled the room. "Is this really gonna work? Holy shit, this is insane." She bragged. "Max." Max cut her off. This was stupid in Lexi's opinion, but she had nothing else to do. Well, there was one thing, but she can't interrupt El by leaving, so she had to wait.
"Yeah, quiet. I'm sorry." Max apologized. "I see them." El announced. "What are they doing?" Lexi asked. "Eating. They say we are species." Max's eyes widened. "What?" Her mouth fell open. "Emotion, not logic." El added. This angered Lexi. "What?"
El then suddenly took the bandana off. "What happened?" Lexi asked and El started laughing. "What... What? What happened?" Max kept asking, until she started laughing too.
The three girls kept laughing until they heard the door open. They cleaned up everything and the two took magazines, while Lexi took her book. "Hey! Hey! When I say three inches, three..." Hopper barged in the room. "Do you knock? Jeez!"
"Yeah! Jeez!" El repeated. "Oh, hey. I'm sorry. I thought that, uh..." He stopped. "Mike's not here." Lexi told him. "Max wanted to have...a sleepover. Is that... okay?" Lexi's eyes widened, until she realized, that someone could have noticed it. She was sleeping in the same room as her. Is she fucking shitting her?"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Your parents know about it?" He asked Max as he made a note in his head to ask Lexi about all of this. "Yup." Max nodded. "Uh, yeah, it's cool. Yeah. That's... That's really cool."
"Did you need something?" Max asked after a while of awkard silence. "No, no. Uh, I'll leave. I'll just let you... I'll leave you..." Hopper left. This was a chance for Lexi to leave. "Hey, I'm gonna talk to dad, okay?" She told El who nodded.
She walked out and saw her dad drinking wine and munching on some chips. "Hey." He turned to her, a little surprised. "Oh, hey." The sat for some time, both busy watching the tv, until Hopper decided to ask the question."What's up with the Max kid?" Lexi winced a little and Hopper noticed it. "What?" She looked at him. "Well, I mean your eyes widened, when El said she's sleeping over and you just winced." He shrugged. "I didn't wince." She protested. "You totally winced." He argued back. "No, I did not wince." She defended. "You totally did."
"Okay, whatever." She sighed. "You wanna tell me, what's your problem with her, kid? I mean, if you want to, I can send her home." Lexi shook her head. "No, It's okay. It would only harm El. I don't want that. The thing is, I used to know her, and I had a bad past with her."
Hopper looked at her with understandment and he waited if she wanted to continue. "She used to go to the summer camp too and we got close and then she never called me again." She gave in.
Lexi and Hopper spent a lot of time talking, until she decided she wanted to practice. Since she wanted to get into the girls choir, she had to practice hard.
Lexi walked out of the cabin, to not disturb anyone and thought of what she should sing. "Wise men say. Only fools rush in. Oh but I, but I can't help falling in love with you." She kept singing, until she felt presence behind her.
When the blonde turned around she saw her. "What do you want?" The redhead winced a little at her tone, but she knew this might be her only chance to make things right and maybe even get her back.
"Why are you still up?" She asked. "What's it up to you?" Okay, that was a little harsh. "Practicing. But you still haven't answered my question. What are you doing here?" Max sighed. "Come on, you can't be still mad at me."
She knew exactly why Lexi was mad at her. For not calling. "Actually, I can. I don't even know why you're here. Just go to sleep." Max scoffed. "Oh come on, don't do this." Max scoffed. "Then leave." Lexi replied. "Seriously? Come on!" She raised her voice a little. "Hey! You're not the one, who should be yelling here."
"Then talk to me!" Lexi scoffed. "Why would I? God, you're so pathetic. What did you think, when you saw me? Oh hey, she's back, maybe I can get her to trust me again and then fuck her up again. Wouldn't that be funny? Well, guess what, Maxine? It isn't. It fucking isn't, okay? I trusted you. God, I loved you, and you did this? You're such a bitch."
Lexi's eyes were filled with tears, that threatened to spill out. "What? You think I never loved you? I was stupid to do that, and when I realized it, it was too late, okay? I mean your favorite hairstyle are braids, because your dad use to braid your hair all the time. Your favorite color is blue. You absolutely love autumn and sweaters, but your favorite piece of clothing ever are jeans. Your favorite fruit is strawberry and your favorite food are pancakes. Your favorite song is Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas and your favorite band is queen. You like singing, but you want to be a writer. You love the smell of strawberries and cherries. You are kind, brave and a loving person, so why do you think I would ever want to give up on us?"
By now, both girls had tears streaming down their faces. "You know I used to hate strawberries when I was little?" Lexi broke the silence. "Really?" Max asked her. "Yeah." Lexi chuckled. "Why do you have that scar?" Max pointed to her hand and Lexi winced. "I mean you don't have to tell me if you don't want to."
"July 24th 1984. You remember the camp, right? Well, it was a normal day, until the game was about to start. Uhm, I went to look for Josh, because I haven't seen him all day. Then I found him. Well, he found me. He attacked me. I was escaping him for some time, he killed some people, but then I had to face him. He tried to kill me. So, I uhm, I killed him." Max gasped.
"Oh my god, why would he do such a thing? You two were good friends." Lexi sighed. "I believe it had to do something with the Upside Down." Max nodded. "El spied on Billy and found some creepy shit and we'll go there tomorrow to check it out. You wanna come with us?"
Lexi sighed. "Fine, but I'm doing this for El, not for you, okay?" Max's smile fell a little. She believed she made a move. A move to make things right. "Do you think you could forgive me someday? Maybe even bring back, what we used to have?" Lexi looked at her. "I don't know." She felt empty at that moment. There Max was, apologizing to her, but Lexi felt like it was too late. But she loved Max.
