Before he had a chance to get out another word, I ducked under his arm and slipped into my driver's room. I heard him mutter something under his breath from the other side of the door, then his footsteps as he marched away. I let out a sigh.

That was just the satisfaction I needed today. How kind of him to stop by.

I got changed into my racesuit quickly enough and saw I still had ten minutes. I let out another sigh and slouched down on the bench. I took out my phone, deciding to post something.

I smiled as I got a notification from my friend Layla. She lived in Monaco, and we didn't see each other as much as we used to, but that didn't stop our friendship. She was my best friend. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, right? At least that's what they say to make you feel better about it. Long distance sucked. But it would suck more if I didn't have her.

Heyyyy

I'm taking time off to watch the race.

You better win.

Me

I'll try

Ley

You can do better than that, come on.

Me

I will win.

Ley

That's my girl ❤

Anyway, how are you feeling?

Me

Pissed

Ley

Call me.

Immediately.

I smiled to myself as my phone began ringing. I picked up and put the call into video mode. She was sitting on the couch in her apartment. She had her dark hair thrown up into a messy bun and a giant gray shirt on. She looked as if she had just woken up.

"You look gorgeous." I told her.

"I know." She pretended to flick her hair.

"How are yo-"

"That's enough small talk. Spill. I desperately need drama." She cut me off by waving her hand, her thick French accent coating her words.

"Okay, okay." I laughed.

"So. Why are you pissed?" She asked, putting down her phone and leaning back, drawing her blanket closer to her.

"Just my dickhead of a teammate. He keeps trying to intimidate me and telling me to know my place," I told her. She shook her head.

"Max right?" She frowned questioningly. She had only started to watch F1 about a month ago and was still learning all of the driver names.

"Yup. Look at you, knowing things." I praised her. She took a small bow, grinning.

"Thank you, thank you. Don't worry, I always remember the names of the hot ones." She winked. I wrinkled my nose.

"Ha! Max is not hot!" I said loudly. She raised an eyebrow.
