That was probably the best birthday I had ever had.
Of course I didn't have much to compare it to, but it wasn't everyday that I got a bloody apartment as a gift. I don't think anyone did. We danced, drank (lightly), and laughed long into the night. Sadly, it was cut short because half of us had Quali the next day. I went to bed happy. The very next morning, I managed to contact Benji through a very annoyed Veronica.
I told him that I would be moving, and to my surprise, instead of being sad, he was excited for me. I wasn't going to complain.
My day was going amazingly well. First of all, I wore my new hoodie to work and felt super happy. I got a small scolding from Bea, but when the media seemed to love it, she took it back. Of course Bea scolded my a little but after seeing that the media had loved it, she took it back. Ha!
Secondly, I qualified for P2, which isn't the best, but it was better than my last few races. I was a little bitter because, of course, Max got pole. But I was closing in, I just knew it.
Then the third great thing happened. Lorenzo asked me out for dinner, and, of course, I said yes. We were set to meet at the restaurant he chose at eight, and I was already stressed. I hadn't been on a first date in an embarrassingly long time, and I had no idea what to do or what to wear.
And to add to that, my two main fashion fashion advisors were busy tonight, so I couldn't consult them. I had to improvise with what I had.
"So, what do you need help with?" Lando sat down on the bed. I fiddled with the strings of my robe nervously.
"I just need you to help me pick a dress to wear. Please?" I asked. He nodded.
"Of course. How many options do you have?" He sat back and placed a hand on his chin, pensively.
"Just two." I hurried to my wardrobe and pulled out two dresses, a dark red satin one and the blue silk one I had gotten for my birthday. I had narrowed it down to only the two, but I still just couldn't decide.
"I really like both. I mean, the red one is amazing, but I feel like it might be too short for a first date, and I don't want him to think anything, but then again, I have the perfect heels for it. But then I look at the blue one, and I think that it's better. Sure, the neckline is a little low, but..." I began to ramble.
Lando was just looking at me, biting his lip slightly. His eyes never left mine, and his face was calm. He looked like the words were just flying right over his head. He had this look in his eyes that made butterflies flutter in my chest.
"I... uhh... Lan?" I asked again, trying to snap him out of his trance. He blinked.
"Mm?" His voice was low and quiet.
"Which dress..?" I asked once more. He got to his feet and came towards me, adjusting the sleeves of his shirt up his forearms. I swallowed hard.
His tongue flickered over his lips before he drew in his bottom lip slightly. His eyes flickered between the two dresses, then back to me. I didn't move. He was so close now that I could feel a warm breath on my face. I looked up at him, feeling my knees shake for just a fraction of a second.
"The blue one." He whispered softly.
"O-okay." I nodded. A small smile tugged at his lips.
I hurried to put back the red dress before going into the bathroom to change. I dropped my robe and slipped into the dress. It fit me perfectly. Although, as I always did, I couldn't reach the zipper.
