Julie

As quiet as possible, I tried to sneak out. My father was nowhere to be seen, making it easier to slip from my room until the kitchen.

Past days seemed like a living hell, trying to avoid him at any cost. I can't seem to be able to face him just yet. I'm mad at him, maybe disappointed.

After my mother passing away, we were inseparable until now. He was drifting apart himself, and even though his intentions might have been good he couldn't decide for my own life.

The keys fitted at the hole and as the door was ready to get unlocked, the key fell from my hand.

Crap.

"Julie? Is that you?", my father's voice resonating through the hallway as I prepared to close the door behind me. Cursing under my breath and debating to answer at him or not, I simply stepped outside.

Rushing to leave our property, and as Iet Max know that Id walk today, I took the usual path for school. It was a moody day, as clouds covered the sun, letting cold breeze giving me shivers. It was at least twenty minutes until I'd reach the school and the T-shirt I was wearing wasn't doing me any favours against the weather.

Crap, I forgot my jacket.

Trying to not over think it, I hurried back home and with quick steps, knowing that by now my father would be gone. I checked around, making sure I was alone and dashed to my room. I rifled through my drawer and grabbed a random jacket. As I did, I heard faint noises downstairs.

Okay, this is it. The day that I die.

Slowly without making a noise I crept down the stairs practically glued on the wall. Holding my breath, I reached the last step and cautiously peeked into the kitchen.

My father's voice filled the air in a serious undertone, and I exhaled, relieved. Just as I prepared to step out of my hiding spot, his words froze me in place.

"What papers?",his tone as serious as never before, "A mess? You sure it wasn't you? Then who?", Each question was punctuated with a small pause, "Come by my office at 5, we'll discuss the matter there."

Were they discussing those files Reggie and I stumbled upon the other day? Heat rushed to my cheeks at the thought of him discovering our snooping.

Within a minute, the sound of the closing door signaled my chance to move freely. I quickly texted Reggie that we needed to talk. Just then, my phone rang.

"Yes?", I answered, my stomach twisting with nerves.

"Hey, Jules, tell me you hadn't left yet for school.", Luke's voice came through, and I struggled to steady my shaky voice. After everything I heard, talking to Luke Patterson right now wasn't really helpful.

"You caught me just before I walked out." I think my voice was still a bit shaky, but hopefully he hasn't noticed it. "I'll be there in five."

I'll officially be late for today.
