I WAS COLD AND CONFUSED when I eventually made it back to the room me and Inej were sharing, I saw her sleeping, she was on her back, ready to spring into action at any time but thankfully I didn't wake her when I entered. I laid down on my own bed and stared at the ceiling, I had only left the roof to give Kaz his privacy, but now I didn't know what to do.
I wondered what he meant when he said, 'because once you've touched death like I have, that's all you ever feel.'
But I didn't worry about it long when I finally fell into the deep abyss of slumber and awoke to Inej tapping me on the shoulder. She looked down at me with worry, as if she thought I'd died or something.
"What?" I blinked.
"How can someone be such a deep sleeper?" She looked utterly confused, now that she was no longer worried.
"Well what time is it?" I usually woke up pretty well, but I also was used to waking up late seeing as I didn't do anything till the later hours.
"six," she spoke like that was a completely normal time to be waking.
"What!? Why in the world would you wake me up so early," I was awake now but not happily, "what could you possibly need done at six in the morning!"
She smiled, she thought this was all quite funny, I on the other hand, did not.
"Just get ready and meet me downstairs okay?"
I grumbled some form of acknowledgment and stood up. I first went to shower, washing myself as well as I could. I then put on the outfit I had met Jesper in, having found a similar dress at a shop last night long before I went on the roof and had my run in with Kaz. Lastly I did my hair, teasing it in two half up half down pigtails.
When I finally deemed myself presentable I went downstairs.
I then sat down beside Jesper and leaned against him, still terribly tired from the early wake up call.
"Got a plan now Mr. Brekker?" I asked my eyes barely open.
When he didn't reply I sighed, instead Jesper said, "I mean, Kribirsk isn't the worst, we can open up a bar-"
I sleepily put my hand over his mouth, and Kaz snapped, "Shut up."
"I miss Milo," he pouted as I removed my hand.
"Friends!" Arken walked over a far to large of a smile on his face.
I grumbled,"Well aren't you all shits and giggles this morning."
"This is Marko!" He gestured to the man beside him, "Marko is the lead in a traveling troupe known as Pomdraken Players. They have been invited to preform at this year's winter fete."
"A lifelong dream," Marko quipped dreamily.
"Yes, yes," Akren waves, "A chance to get into the little palace, but they lost their star performer last night in a freak accident, they are in desperate need of a replacement and as Ketterdam's premier talent manager, I had an idea."
I perked up, I could do that, I mean that's all I'd done for nine years. Jesper looked over and me and smirked, I returned the gesture.
Kaz then looked at me, 'go on', he seemed to say, 'I didn't bring you for nothing.'
