THE HORRIBLE POUNDING IN MY HEAD just would not stop, of course I hid it well enough, but finally sitting down on the boat was the only heaven I would ever get too. Jesper of course felt like now was a good time for comedy.

"We set out with a clear mission," he shook his head, "a prize of a million kruge. And a new member on our crew." He grinned at me, "So... what did we learn? People with trains are evil."

"Here here," I spoke up during his little speech.

"You can't kidnap a human sunbeam. And maybe, just maybe, greed is a poor motivator. True wealth, is the friends you make a long the way."

Inej shook her head though smiling, "I just might be impressed."

"I'm talking of Milo of course," to that I kicked him. He winced,"and Evi, great costumes love." He then turned serious, "Now, what's going to happen when we walk into Ketterdam?"

"Dreesen is waiting for us," Inej frowned.

"And Pekka Rollins," Kaz glanced over at me.

"They'll both want our heads once we show up with no sun summoner," Inej frowned. This was the first I was hearing of this Dreesen guy, but I put it together pretty quick.

"Well I'm sure the boss has a plan," Jesper's smile only worried me more, "He wouldn't sent us into a death trap, tell me you have a plan, I don't care if it's a lie." He turned to Kaz.

For some reason he glanced at me again, "I have a plan. And, just how this all started... we'll need a heartrender."

This all happened before me, so I didn't know who Jesper was talking about when he asked, "Milana?"

"No," Kaz's unending scowl remained sullen, "For this to work, it needs to be someone neither of them know. Someone desperate for work with loyalties only to us."

Some man came around, cutting Kaz short. They were talking about Alina's supposed death. A woman sitting near us looked at me, "excuse me, is what he said true?"

"I've only heard the rumors," I smiled at her.

The ride back to Ketterdam was long, and stress within the crows was far higher than any of us would admit, night had fallen and we were about an hour from Ketterdam shores before I even spoke with any of them again.

I was standing on the edge of the ship watching the water crash along the side, I was wearing a low cut  black gown that was gifted to me by a kind, older, woman named Mary I spoke to while on the ship. It was beautiful, but it exposed too many of the scars and tattoos on my back that I really didn't want to think about. It seemed I'd adopted the crows black garments, replacing my old, colorful circus girl wardrobe, at least till I could get my hands on a nicer dress.

I didn't hear when Inej approached me, but of course no one ever did. She made herself known by tapping my bare shoulder.

"Hm?" I snapped my head in her direction.

She smiled, "I never really got to talk to you much."

"Ah, I'm a girl in demand," I joked.

"Oh?" She chuckled, "I was sitting with Jesper and noticed your new outfit? What poor woman did you steal it from?"
