AINT NO GRAVE
-johnny cash-casually walking alongside someone who was trying to eat you just hours ago, was not as shocking as seraphina had thought.
she had been so wrapped up in watching this girl she hardly had time to think about anything else.
"i lost your sword. they forced it from my hand."
with a soft breath, seraphina patting her back, "it's nothing to worry about. it wasn't my best work."
the sun was going down over the forest as the two warriors came upon a clearing, set up with tents and travel equipment by the looks of it, "this a new settlement or something?"
"they are tracking your people, moving in. i simply followed their signs. i cannot go." kierda replied.
a huffed laugh left the woman's throat, "they won't make you go away, i won't let them."
"you have no sway here" the redhead said, plainly.
a tilt of her head back and forth, seraphina considered it, "what's the harm in trying?"
"there is much harm. we are a simple people, do what must be done." kierdas face shifted into a heavy frown, "even at the cost of our own lives."
"what if i could prove to them you aren't a reaper any longer? that i changed you before you fully made the shift into one of those crazy bastards?" a plan began to take shape in her mind but the younger girl turned her down once more.
"why are you so insistent on saving me? i am no longer worth being saved."
a feeling seraphina knew too well washed over the girls face. just a child, thinking her life was worth nothing because she thought she'd failed those she was closest to.
"because i know someone, who was like you once. she realized her life is to be lived even after all the shitty stuff she's done. i don't want you to think you aren't worth anything, because you are." the woman took a deep breath.
"i'm not going in there." keirda deadpanned.
shrugging, seraphina turned back to the camp, watching carefully for anything amiss, "was worth a try. why'd you bring me here, if you knew you weren't going in?"
"i suppose i needed to see if they were alright. i know they will be but i had to make sure." keirdas frown seemed to deepen.
seraphina looked over the tents, "i wanna talk to your commander still."
quickly the other girl grabbed her arm, "do not do this. don't make bad decisions for me."
returning the worry with a small smile, seraphina returned the girls hold, "don't worry about me sunshine, i'll wait for now. besides, whatever you do, wherever you go from here on, just know i like you just fine kid. even if you did try to eat me."
"if you die," the girl began, "it was nice to know you. and if you don't, just know you can call for me anytime. i leave you for now."
"til we meet again kid."
☽
coming upon the dropship, her only landmark at the moment, seraphina raised her eyebrows at the noises coming from within.
