The rest of the week goes by slowly. I don't see Dean. We exchange a few texts about how our days have been but that is it. As much as I want to go and see him I also don't want to come off too needy. He has work to do and I want to respect that and give him space. I know how seriously he takes his work, how much he cares about it.
I feel like I haven't been home in ages so when Mom and Dad head out to work I decide to clean. Partly because I feel a little guilty for neglecting my chores lately and partly because I am bored and I want to pass the time. I walk into town and do a little bit of shopping, picking up some new summer clothes.
Georgia texts on Friday morning and asks about a girls night next Friday. I set up a group chat with Jess and we all agree on a time.
It's Friday afternoon, the weather is warm so I sit on the porch and try to read. I only realise I am not reading and staring into nothing when my phone rings. I jump and pick it up.
"Hi, sweetheart" Dean's voice hums through the phone, it is so good to hear it again.
"Hi" I close my eyes and sink into the porch chair, happy to be hearing his voice.
"I'm heading home now, pick you up at seven?"
"Can't wait" I smile
"See you soon" Dean ends the call. I rush upstairs to change as I see Mom and Dad are pulling up in their car.
True to his word Dean arrives exactly at seven. I had no idea what to wear. I know there is only one restaurant in town but I have not been so I don't know what the dress code is. I went with a navy blue skater dress and black heels. I added a little extra effort into my make-up and curled my hair. Dean knocks on the door and when I open it my mouth waters. He is in navy blue slacks and a black shirt. He looks me up and down licking his lips, making my whole body shiver.
I have missed him.
"Annie, you look beautiful" he says as his eyes meet mine.
"Hi Sheriff" Mom is suddenly standing next to me
"Mrs Stevens" Dean greets giving her a nod and a smile.
"You two have fun tonight" she squeezes my shoulders and stands at the door to watch us drive off. Dean holds out his hand and I take it. I climb into the car when he opens the door for me and we make our way to the restaurant.
The Italian restaurant smells delicious and I am so hungry. We order our food and drinks and Dean stares at me.
"God, Annie I've missed you" he sighs, warming my heart, I'm glad he has felt the same way I have these past few days. I feel the blush creep up my cheeks.
"I've missed you too" I smile and take a sip of my wine when the waiter puts the glass down.
"What has been keeping you so busy at work? Nothing bad I hope" I ask.
Dean shuffles in his seat uncomfortably, "No, just a few incidents"
"Incidents?" I prompt.
"Yeah, anti-social behaviour, a bit of vandalism, that sort of thing" he is looking around the room.
"Oh, do you know who is doing it?" I ask
"Yeah I know" he laughs without humour, nodding his head. His eyes darken as he looks at me. I've never seen them look so.... angry? Is he angry?
I furrow my brows in confusion. It seems he doesn't want to tell me any thing else and we sit in an awkward silence for a moment.
Dean clears his throat and his eyes soften, "Let's not talk about my work though, how has your week been?"
