"Alright, cool," the leader of the Yiga clan said. "Let's get this started!" Only, he paused, thinking hard for a moment. "No, wait. I haven't introduced myself yet. I am the leader... of the Yiga Clan!"

After such a proud proclamation, he completely undermined himself by doing a strange little dance (which, of course I did my best to hide my laughter for, however difficult it was especially considering the way Link was clearly trying to hide his own enjoyment).

Kohga only continued on, not swayed by the rather obvious ways we were trying to hold our smiles back. "The strong! The burly! The one! The only! Master Kohga!"

He hit a pose - one he probably thought was cool. Link and I shared a glance, and Link looked like he really, really wanted to say something, but chose not to.

Well, I certainly had some words for Kohga, so-

"Now, prepare yourself!"

Ok, nevermind.

Kohga sprang into action, spinning away as I rolled my eyes. I drew my bow and stepped back a few paces, watching our foe's wild movements closely. The sooner I got a read on this guy, the sooner we could be done with this.

Link, obviously, prepared to fight too - but Kohga didn't seem like much more than a nuisance, about a single lateral step away from a particularly determined fly if I chose to cook outside - but we both knew we had to focus up anyway. Taking a fight too lightly - any fight - could quickly prove deadly. And because we didn't know what he was going to do or what his style was, we had to stay on our toes. Hylia, he probably had some tricks up his sleeve.

I did know one thing for certain, however. This man was the leader of the group that hated Link, hated what he stood for, and wanted him dead. For that, they deserved their death.

...

Did I just think that?

I suppose I did. I just felt this fierce, unyielding desire to protect Link, and it went far beyond the simple fact that he'd saved my life before. I knew the reason why, but was it worth killing over? Then again, it went beyond the reason I was thinking of, the reason I'd only just started coming to terms with. This was no less than the fate of Hyrule.

...though of course it did help that my heart seemed to beat for him, nowadays.

Anyway! As it turned out, I was right, because of course I was. Kohga did indeed have a trick or two up his sleeve. This didn't surprise me. What did surprise me was that Kohga was, at his core, an idiot. I had figured, perhaps naively, that the boss of a big organization like this would be smart. It was logical to think. Most leaders are put into their position or are able to rise up into it because they're at least a little bit smart, or clever, or ingenious.

But Kohga... he was ridiculously stupid. The first part of the fight had been easy. Kohga would summon for himself a rectangular blue shield to protect himself as he made a giant ball appear over his head. This was extremely simple for the two of us after we saw what he was going to do. Kohga would drop the shield, throw the ball at Link, and do it all over again.

We'd had gotten a strategy down quickly: Link would distract him while I hung back, bow at the ready. As soon as Kohga dropped his shield to throw the ball, I would release my arrow, hitting him and making him drop the ball onto his head.

Kohga would be buried in the sand, wriggling like a worm, while Link ran up to slash at him with his sword. This style of fighting was very effective, and Kohga seemed to realize this, because he switched up tactics pretty soon afterward.

Kohga, during one such instance, decided not to let Link get close. He leaped away from Link's sword and flew over above the pit, the giant one in the center of the arena. I watched him with narrow eyes, keeping my arrow trained on his head. Kohga hovered over the pit (throwing a small tantrum?), summoned two of the giant balls like it was no big deal and began to maneuver them in a large circle around him. Kohga got his shield back up as the spheres orbited around him, and it didn't take Link and I long to realize that our previous strategy was still incredibly effective.
