Chapter 7: The Beginning of Doubt

The place where An Nuo lived was close to the school, so they arrived early. When An Nuo got out of the car, she saw that Xia Qiuyi and Wei Ming were walking in her direction. However, Xia Qiuyi seemed to be arguing with Wei Ming about something, and it was a bit heated. However, it wasn't much of an argument. It was pretty much Xia Qiuyi talking. Wei Ming basically didn't speak. He was holding a box of octopus balls, and after Xia Qiuyi said a few words, he put one in her mouth. After she said a few words, he fed her again and again. It's amazing that Xia Qiuyi ate so obediently. An Nuo suddenly felt that Xia Qiuyi was a tiger that turned into a little cat after being tamed by Wei Ming.

"Wow, it seems like Wei Ming really likes Sister Qiuyi for her looks." An Nuo looked at Gu Nanke in surprise, only to see him shrug, as if that was not something he had just said. "Despite how Wei Ming seems indifferent, he actually enjoys debating with others. I didn't expect him to behave so well in front of Sister Qiuyi."

An Nuo was a bit confused, but Gu Nanke did not look like he wasn't joking. Falling in love was like a reflection of oneself.

"Huh? An Nuo!" Before she could react, Miss Xia Qiuyi, one of the main characters they were discussing, rushed towards her. Xia Qiuyi ran and did not stop, so they collided with each other. If Gu Nanke didn't put a hand out in time to support An Nuo, they would really have fallen into the ground.

Wei Ming arrived and quickly took Xia Qiuyi to his side. He carefully examined her and saw that she was not injured. He breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Why are you still so reckless? That was so dangerous."

"I'm just so happy to see my girl. Anyways, who are you to always make me so angry? If I didn't run away from you any sooner, then I would have exploded with anger." Xia Qiuyi put on a playful smile, and Wei Ming petted her head.

"Hey, hey, enough! It's too much. You're spreading dog food in public," Gu Nanke said with an exaggerated injured expression but resumed his composure the next second. "Okay, it's almost noon. Let's go to the cafeteria to eat together. The highlight of today's music festival is at night. We can't become starving ghosts before then."

They headed towards the cafeteria, with Xia Qiuyi and Wei Ming in front, and Gu Nanke and An Nuo behind. After a while, Xia Qiuyi ran back and pulled An Nuo as if she suddenly remembered something. She didn't forget to signal Gu Nanke to go ahead and not eavesdrop. "You will definitely be super happy tonight. There is a big surprise waiting for you."

"What surprise?" She hoped to get an answer from her, but Xia Qiuyi only gave An Nuo a mysterious look and ran off to Wei Ming. An Nuo was left with a puzzled expression.

'What kind of surprise is it...' An Nuo was a very curious person, and since hearing about it, she constantly asked Gu Nanke about it.

"Sister, most people actually know about it. If they didn't, there wouldn't be that many people today." Gu Nanke only said this and did not reveal more details.

'Can it be...' An Nuo thought of a possibility but quickly rejected it. However, she had a faint hope in her heart. If it was really what she was thinking, then Qi Yan might be here because it was his alma mater. It was the reason why An Nuo worked hard to get into this school.

Like this, she spent the afternoon lost in thought. The special program that night was held in their school's small auditorium, so only a few hundred people entered. Fortunately, Xia Qiuyi had connections, and they even got front row seats.

"Sister? Sister?" Gu Nanke called her several times before she came to her senses. She was a bit confused. "What's the matter?"

"Why have you been so tired all afternoon? It's really worrying." An Nuo saw Gu Nanke's slightly solemn expression, and she could only smile. "It's nothing, I'm just curious about what the surprise is tonight."

The lights suddenly dimmed, and the whole room fell into silence. A dim beam of light gathered in the centre of the stage. At this moment, a person appeared there. He was sitting there with his back facing the audience. No one could see his face. An Nuo felt that it was not Qi Yan, and she was slightly disappointed.

Then the person sang Qi Yan's new song "Mask" with his back facing the audience. Although he was not Qi Yan, An Nuo thought he sounded similar to him.

At the end of the song, the person turns around. It turned out that it was Mu, who debuted at the same time as Qi Yan. There was a loud scream in the audience. Mu was another popular idol. Of course, Mu was not his real name, just his stage name. Only then did An Nuo realise that some people around her were holding his banner. Upon closer inspection, most of the people in the room were carrying essential fan items. She also saw them holding things for Qi Yan.

'What does this mean?' Before An Nuo could react, Mu smiled and took on the MC role. "Alright, let's invite our next performer, Qi Yan, to sing my song, "Black and White."

'It can't be, right?' While An Nuo was surprised, Qi Yan stepped onto the stage. Today, he was dressed in simply all black, with a turtleneck sweater that made him look extra gentle. His voice was different from Mu's voice. His bass-like voice was more suitable for singing love songs. Mu's song was sad. It was intended to be a song about having to sadly smile, but it was performed in a different way by Qi Ya. It was more like a drowning person crying out, hoping for someone to come and save him, but realising that he would only die alone in despair, and he finally gave up struggling in the end.

An Nuo was immersed in this sad song, but when she looked up, she saw that Qi Yan seemed to be looking at her. However, there was a sound of a camera behind her, so she didn't think too much of it. She only thought that he was probably looking at the fan's camera.

Qi Yan and Mu both had busy schedules, so they said a few hasty words and ended the performance.

"By the way, everyone, don't forget to look under your chair." Mu mysteriously left this sentence to the audience below before leaving.

At that moment, An Nuo was already searching for something under her chair, so she didn't notice how Qi Yan was looking at her thoughtfully as he left.
