Chapter 8: Afterwards

Since seeing that girl yesterday, Qi Yan kept feeling restless. She looked exactly like An Nuo from his dreams. He was sure that he had never seen her in real life, so why did he see her now? He did not understand.

For so many years, he strived to be a good public figure. He worked hard to change his previously reserved personality to a polite and outgoing one and also worked hard to give back to everyone who liked him as an idol. But he knew that this was not him. He was tired, afraid of being alone, and hoped that someone could be there for him when he was hurt. But for his work, he ignored his emotions and did not engage with anyone. For so long, he had been alone.

He originally thought it was all a dream, but if it weren't, how should he handle his emotions?

"Qi Yan? Qi Yan?" While Qi Yan was thinking, his agent, Liu Cun, suddenly leaned over and nudged him. He finally collected his thoughts. "What's the matter?"

"Why are you so absent-minded today? What are you thinking about?" Although Liu Cun was his agent, he was older than Qi Yan and had always taken care of Qi Yan like a brother. That's why Qi Yan occasionally spoke openly with him.

He rubbed his temple. He was a bit tired and remained silent for a moment before hesitantly saying, "Brother, can you help me find a private detective?"

"Huh? What do you want a private detective for?" He was probably afraid that Qi Yan might get into trouble. Liu Cun looked pretty nervous.

"Don't worry, it's just a small matter. I want him to help investigate someone, that's all." He paused again before speaking. "She's from XX University, her name is An Nuo."

"XX university? Isn't that the place you went to yesterday? That's a girl's name, right? Do you like her or something?" Liu Cun immediately spurted out. Since his debut, Qi Yan's emotional life was blank. Today, he suddenly started asking about a girl, and that honestly made Liu Cun feel sincerely happy for him.

But he did not receive a response from Qi Yan. He turned his head to look at Qi Yan, only to find him looking thoughtfully out of the window. The space fell silent for so long that he thought Qi Yan would no longer answer this question. The schedule for today was far away, so Liu Cun was going to take a nap first. However, when  he was about to fall asleep, he seemed to hear Qi Yan's whisper, "Yeah, I think I really like her."

Today's schedule was a promotional ad for the amusement park. Qi Yan was going to shoot with another rising celebrity from his generation, Bai Rujing. This was Qi Yan's first time at this amusement park. Due to filming, the venue was booked today. There was barely anyone there, and it looked cold and desolate.

The first scene was riding a roller coaster. As the roller coaster reached the top and rushed down, Qi Yan was supposed to hold Bai Rujing's hand. Then, they would look at each other and smile, acting like a couple in a good relationship.

Qi Yan was ready. He was sitting in his seat studying the scene when he heard Bai Rujing flirting with the director, stating that she didn't want to participate in such a terrifying project. "Director, let's switch to a more relaxed ride, I'm a bit afraid of heights." Although she was addressing the director, her eyes occasionally glanced towards Qi Yan. It was as if she was waiting for him to be "the hero who saved the beauty."

Qi Yan just flipped through the script without moving while he had a serious expression on his face. Bai Rujing looked at him with some annoyance, but she also felt a stronger desire to win him over.

"That's not going to work. The roller coaster is the focus of the ad for this amusement park, and if you don't go on it, then I'll have to change you to someone else." The director made it clear that he was not going to make any changes. Bai Rujing was so frustrated that she could only sit in anger.

In one second, she looked pale, like she was about to faint, but in the next second, she was smiling with her hand out to Qi Yan. "Hello, my name is Bai Rujing. Please take care of me."

"Yeah." Qi Yan politely shook her hand but only touched her fingertips before withdrawing.

She still smiled brightly and said, "Qi Yan, can I hold onto you later? When I'm on the rollercoaster, I feel a bit scared. I hope you can give me some courage."

Before Qi Yan could speak, Liu Cun, who was standing nearby, couldn't stand her anymore. "Grab the guardrail and scream loudly if you're afraid."

Although Bai Rujing was furious, she had to put on a friendly look on the surface and replied, "Thank you, Brother Cun."

"Are you ready? Action!"

They were not the only ones a part of this scene. There were many popular actors involved. Bai Rujing had intended to make some physical contact with Qi Yan at this time, but due to the numerous eyes behind her and how she was a rising celebrity, she did not do it.

Qi Yan sat through the ride. Although he felt that riding the roller coaster helped him release his stress, his heart was a bit lonely. He had been working hard to make money since childhood and rarely had the opportunity to relax. Listening to the happy screams of those behind him made him suddenly miss An Nuo. He hoped that he would have the chance to come here with her one day, and he wanted to share this happiness with her.

The shooting went very smoothly. Qi Yan had always been serious about his work. He was more attentive to the shooting, and the schedule quickly came to an end.

As he sat in the nanny car to go home, Qi Yan suddenly received a notification of a friend request from Bai Rujing. He looked at it indifferently and scrolled past it.

He just wanted to sleep.
