Winter began to wash the dishes as Moon helped Whiteout to pack as she also put together her own bag. "Can I bring this mommy?" She asked, holding up a hat. Moon chuckled and folded some cloaks and placed them in her bag "sweetie, that's a hat for when it gets cold. We're going to the desert."
Whiteout pondered for a moment, and begun her usual habit of looking upwards while sticking out a small sliver of her silver-slit tongue. (A trait from her Nightwing half.) "...Sooo... It's.... Cold right?" She asked, sounding semi-confident with her answer. Moon laughed "no no, the desert is hot. Very hot. So we'll need to bring lots of food and water. We'll also need osme blankets because it can get pretty cold at night. But not cold enough for a hat." She stated, grabbing the item from her daughter and putting it back in it's original place.
Moon had also been putting together Winter's bag too, after taking a step back and looking through what they've packed, getting rid of unnecessary items and checking again to make sure she didn't forget to pack anything. After a moment, Moon smiled and zipped up the bags and put hers around her neck and took Whiteout's and Winter's and hung them on her tail to transport.
Whiteout followed Moon out of the room and down the hall to where Winter was finishing up the dishes "all packed?" He asked, knowing they were there by the sounds of their steps. "Yep! We're all packed!" Whiteout announced with a smile. Winter looked back "that's good. I'm almost done this so as soon as I'm finished, we can leave."
Moon walked over and kissed Winter's cheek and began to help with the dishes. "Y'know, Whiteout wanted to bring a hat to the desert." Winter leaned back with a confused face "but... It's the desert." "She knows that now." She said with a smile and leaded on Winter's neck when he went back to his original position "I just find it cute when she's oblivious to things like that."
"You were oblivious in regards to my feelings for you... For quite a bit of time. You're Mindreader and you didn't know when I had a crush on you." He paused to laugh "so you have no right to poke fun at our daughter's cluelessness when you yourself were clueless."
Moon flicked his tail with hers while smiling. "How dare you bring up our youth like that. We've been married for three years and I've never done a low blow like that." They laughed for a second as they finished with the dishes. Moon raised her tail and Winter grabbed his bag and placed it around his neck "alright. Let's head out."
--------
It's been a while since the family departed from their home. Whiteout got exhausted after a few minutes of flying and is now asleep on Winter's back. Moon yawned as well and stretched her arms and legs forward, and then settled. "Do you need me to carry you too?" Winter asked to which Moon shook her head. "It's still early morning... Of course I'd still be a bit tired."
Winter still looked concerned "you sure? Moon, it won't be a problem-" "It's fine, love." She assured, flying closer and intertwining their claws. But Moon then looked at Whiteout. "I'm worried for when we go to a more populated place. There'll be so many minds... So many thoughts. She might go crazy. What if- What if I didn't teach her enough and everything goes wrong and we lose our daughter?! What if we can't protect her and-"
"Moon." Winter called out in his calming voice as he squeezed her claws gently. Hesitantly, she looked up at him and he smiled "it'll be okay. She knows how much we worry for her and she knows how dangerous having her abilities can be. We're just lucky she wasn't born under two or three full moons. I remember the nightmares you had back at Jade Mountain Academy."
They both paused and began recalling the times Moon would mutter the Jade Mountain Prophecy in her sleep or wake up screaming because of it. They were both thankful Whiteout didn't need to suffer through those experiences. But, it had also been a while since Moon had a vision like that.
Which meant that everything was peaceful and everyone Pyrrhia was finally getting along.
Or that something else was coming back to finish what they've started.
--------
Whiteout was back to flying on her own. She napped for a good two hours and her parents were talking about some random things going on. But then, they both looked at her. I know that look... She thought and began paying attention. "We know we're going to the Desert. That means there are a lot more minds there and there are going to be so many thoughts rushing through your head." Moon started, "so, we have some strategies for you to help drown out the noise." Winter finished and looked at Moon who turned around so she was flying backwards.
"The strategy I use is simple: Rain. I think of rain and slip each thought in the a droplet and let them crash and fade away on the ground. Or, we have one that I got a while ago; Waves. Think of your thoughts as grains of sand, then, imagine the waves crashing against the shore and dragging those thoughts our to sea."
"Try it with us." Winter said as he and Moon began to think of random things. Whiteout took some deep breaths as her parents thoughts raced into her mind. She thought of the rain. She placed the thoughts in the water but there were too many. So she tried the waves crashing on the shore. It calmed her more. Maybe because of where she lives? But the ocean worked better.
Soon enough, she couldn't hear her parent's thoughts. She knew they were there. But they were muffled and left as soon as they came, being replaced by the sounds of waves crashing on the sand then retreating back to the sea.
"I think I've got it." Whiteout announced, sounding pleased with herself. Smiling to each other, Moon and Winter kissed each other.
"GET A ROOM! BLEGH!"
