dear readers, this one was inspired by this lyric from the song Ryder by Madison Beer: "Just two kids caught in the crossfire" with a sad-ish romantic spin on it. hope you like it :)
---
We're flinging bombshells
Across a chasm churning;
Caught in the cross-fire
Metal droplets of rain
Brushing their points against your
Shoulder blades
(fleeting as a breeze)
Finding that stormcloud
Inside of you
Like magnets to a refrigerator
(here's a hint:
four chambers, coursing with red)
It clips carnations
To your cold stone chest
And swings right on through—
I choke on
A breath that fits like a kiss
On my lips
Heavy with the poison
Of regret
Tumbled to the ground
A mess of broken promise chains
(tangled like windchimes
in a tornado)—
I lie on the ground:
A kite stuck in a tree
Surrounded by crows
Pecked away to a skeleton
Of tree bones.
