Day 84 SK
Location: Coruscant Republic Base
1900 hoursI run after Peg through the halls of the Republic Base. After a long day of training, the little bum decided to grab Warthog's snow gloves and take off. Apparently he's still learning what's a game and what isn't.
"Peg, stop! Sit! This isn't a game, bring those back!" I shout, following him out a garage door. He doesn't stop, even when we reach the steps leading to the Jedi Temple.
I hesitate. I was given a debriefing on the rules. Most areas in the Jedi Temple are off limits to clones and civilians, but places like the landing hangar, and a small section of their library are okay. I don't know where those are, and I get the feeling Peg doesn't care.
But I can't just let him go on his own.
I race up the steps after him. "Peg?" Two large Jedi statues loom at either side of the entrance. A feeling of trespassing nags at the back of my mind as I pass by them, following Peg into a large entrance.
We run down hall after hall, never running into other people. Peg stays just within view, making sure that I'm behind him, tail whipping back and forth. I stop when we come to an open courtyard. The ground is stone, like the rest of the Temple I passed through, but there's a single white tree ahead of me, growing from a patch of rich dirt. There's someone sitting in front of it, cross legged, with his eyes closed.
"Peg!" I hiss through clenched teeth. He stops by the person, and I take the chance to catch my breath. Dropping the glove into the person's lap, he rolls onto his back. I jog over as the person gives Peg belly rubs.
"Sir?"
He looks up at me, surprise flickering across his face. He stands, and I force out an explanation. "I'm sorry, Sir, I don't mean to trespass. But Peg ran into the Temple and I didn't want him to get in trouble and General Plo Koon is off-planet so I couldn't get his help. I didn't intend to break any rules."
I glare at Peg, who just gives me puppy eyes, panting happily. I'm surprised when the man chuckles, passing me the damp glove.
"It's quite alright. Your friend seems like quite the handful. I don't believe we've met." He looks at me curiously, a slight smile on his lips.
"I'm Pup, Sir, from the 104th. This is my wolf, Peg." Peg sits obediently beside me, watching us innocently.
"My name is Obi-Wan Kenobi," the man replies. "It's nice to meet you, Pup."
"You as well, General Kenobi, Sir." This seems to amuse him, though I'm not sure why.
"Have you met Commander Cody yet?" he asks.
I recognize the name from the 501st, who mention him now and again. I think Commander Wolffe even mentioned him once, in something that sounded almost like praise. "I haven't yet, Sir. My training is currently only with the 104th, 327th, and 501st."
"Sinker, have you seen my other glove?" Warthog's voice comes through my helmet's comm link, from under my arm. My eyes widen, and I whack Peg over the head with the glove. He whines, offended. I look back to General Kenobi, who smiles.
"Let me escort you out of the Temple."
"Thank you, Sir," I reply gratefully. We walk together down a slightly shorter path than the one Peg took, stopping at the top of the steps. I turn to the General. "Sorry for troubling you, Sir. I won't let it happen again."
He smiles warmly. "I trust you'll see that it won't. Peg will be a wonderful addition to the Wolfpack someday."
"Thank you, Sir. It was a pleasure meeting you."
"The pleasure was mine!" he calls as I start down the steps, Peg walking alongside me. After Making Peg return Warthog's gloves to him, Commander Wolffe gives me an updated training schedule. Right under my training with the 501st tomorrow is the 212th, and Commander Cody.
I scratch Peg between the ears, and smile.
