***A/N Hello... Just an apology because this chapter got away from me, so it's a bit longer than most... but it was fun to write. =) I need to get back to naming my chapters/parts. I am so impressed when people are able to name each section as they go. I suck at that. If anyone wants to help by throwing out a subtitle for each section I've missed... feel free. It would be nice to have some feedback. Anyways... on to the story, and for those of you reading... many thanks. I appreciate your reading and votes! ***
Monday, as I entered the office I was immediately met at the door by an overly enthusiastic Hannah. She was dressed in a white pantsuit and had her blonde hair swept up in a knot. She was snacking on a granola bar and frantically chewing.
"Mmn." She quickly swallowed. "How do I look? I want to make a good impression. Too formal? Should I put my hair down? I want to look approachable. I don't want to look too severe."
I dropped my briefcase on my desk and turned to face her. I tried not to smirk. I don't think I'd ever seen her nervous. "What? Do you have a hot date after work?"
She blinked and fixed me with a blank stare. She sighed. "I swear August, we discussed this just last week. You are so disorganized."
It was my turn to face her with a blank stare. As my assistant, wasn't keeping me organized an actual part of her job description?
"You have an appointment today with Ezekiel Fraser."
I raised my eyebrow.
"From Pack Fraser."
"Oh-kay." I dropped down into the chair at my desk. I hadn't forgotten and the appointment wasn't until seven p.m. I reconfirmed this by accessing my schedule on the computer. Yep. I had blocked off adequate time. I would be heading to them, as the appointment was taking place on pack land. I still wasn't making the relevant connection.
"Well, they are a new potential client—"
"Uh-huh." I tried not to sound too bored. Apparently, I did not share her enthusiasm. Perhaps it had something to do with her fascination with werewolves.
"And I wanted to make a good first impression."
Ah. That was it. A misunderstanding. "The appointment is on pack land." I gently reminded her.
"I know."
"Hannah, I'm going alone."
"What!" Her eyes went a bit buggy then. She dropped down onto one of the chairs in front of my desk. The ones usually reserved for clients. She leaned towards me. "Do you think that wise? I mean, wouldn't it look more professional, August, to appear with a dedicated team instead of a one-man show?"
"You don't think I can sell my abilities on my own?" I narrowed my eyes. "Or properly represent this firm?"
She dropped her eyes. "That's not it at all. I just think it would appear more—"
"You're human, Hannah. I'm not about to bring you onto pack land no matter how curious you may be. It isn't safe."
She gaped at me before quickly recovering. "But I wouldn't be alone. You would be escorting me." Her voice had a pleading tone. "And it's not like we'd be trespassing. We've been invited."
I fixed her with what I hoped was a neutral stare. "Just how much experience do you have in dealing with werewolves?"
Her eyes widened and she sat back straight in her chair. "Well... there's the Bishop case of cour—"
"If Caleb Bishop is the only wolf you have worked with, then I assure you that he is the exception and not the rule. He is very open-minded. Most wolves do not have a favorable outlook when it comes to dealing with humans or witches."
