"What were you two speaking about?"
"He wants permission for trading and I gave to him"
You half lie to your husband as both of you walk through the gardens.
"No, it's more than that, I heard you both speaking in a strange language...it sounded familiar to Arabic"
"You were eavesdropping on us?" you inquire, trying to change the subject.
Suddenly.Habi stops in his tracks, turning to face you with a serious expression on his face.
"I think I know what's going on," he says, his voice low. You can feel the tension in the air as he continues to speak.
"I know that you know him and you are trying to hid something from me"
You freeze for a moment, shocked by your husband's accusation.
"What are you talking about?" you ask, trying to keep your voice steady.
"I'm talking about the fact that you don't trust me" Habi accuses, narrowing his eyes in anger.
And disappointment.
You feel a stab of guilt in your chest as your husband's words sink in. You've been keeping secrets from him, and he's just called you out on it.
Knowing you have to come clean about everything, but you're worried about how Habi will react.
"You're right, Habi. I have been keeping something from you," you say, taking a deep breathe to steady your nerves.
"The truth is, I do know him, however if I told you how I know him, you would say I'm mad"
When Habi was about to speak up, one of the guards approached you.
"Excuse me for the intruppetion, my pharaoh, my king, but Rome has sent a messenger"
You are surprised, not believing that Caeser has sent a massage for you so quickly.
"What does the letter say?" Habi demands.
The guard hands you the scroll, which you take and open.
To Pharaoh (Y/n) of Egypt,
I will visit Egypt soon, and I shall expect for you to greet me at the port of Alexanderia.
Do not worry, I come to speak of peace and discuss some important matters.
Rest assured that Rome means no harm.
From Emperor Gaius Octavian Caeser of Rome.
The letter is short, but you feel that he is up to no good.
Habi takes the paper from your hands and reads it over.
His expression suggests that he too has reservations about the emperor's intentions.
"We must be extremely careful in our dealings with Rome,"
Habi says, his eyes meeting yours.
"We cannot allow ourselves to be taken advantage of or manipulated, we have to maintain our independence and make sure that our word is heard."
You nod in agreement, feeling a weight lifted off your shoulders.
Together, you begin to formulate a plan on how to approach the emperor's visit and ensure that your interests are upheld.
❃❃❃ Two Days Later ❃❃❃
As you approach the port of Alexandria, you feel a sense of unease wash over you. The port is bustling with activity, with ships coming and going from all over the Mediterranean.
Despite the sunny day, a dark cloud hangs over the city, as if it somehow senses the impending danger.
You see Augustus and his men approach you after getting off the ship.
"Welcome to Egypt"
Caesar smiles at you, the same menacing cold glint in his eyes as he stares at you.
"Alexandria is fairing well ever since the last time I have seen it"
You nod your head at him, returning his smile with a chuckle.
"Indeed...Caesarion's blood was shed here after all"
