I wake up at what seems to be a few hours later, though I feel as if I've only slept for about 10 minutes.
My head aches painfully, along with the rest of my body. I struggle over to my cracked mirror in the corner of my room. New bruises have formed over my entire figure, trailing their way up and down my arms and around my neck. I lift up the hem of my tank top and gasp. Basically all of my abdomen is covered in purple and black bruises. My skin is a collage of painful colors, spanning from blue to black to purple to red to a sickly green and even a disgusting yellow.
'This is the last straw, we're leaving.' Lyla says in my head.
'I agree.' I reply. I hurriedly grab my few possessions, including my alpha necklace my grandfather gave me secretly before he died. I slipped it over my head so it rested on my chest before making my way to the door.
The house should be empty, everyone usually leaves by this time in the afternoon.
I sneak soundlessly down the stairs and to the back door. We has woods behind our pack house, and halfway through them is our territory boundary.
I take a deep breath before shifting into my wolf. She is the only part of me that I actually like, no matter the fact that my wolf's fur is matted or that I loved like a walking skeleton. I loved my wolf form, and my wolf herself. The honey color is only a shade darker than my actual hair color, with little brown spots across my muzzle where I have freckles in my human form. I don't know of a single other wolf with freckled fur. It makes me feel unique. My blue eyes always brighten up again once I was my wolf.
The actual shift is painful for me, just like my first shift, except that it doesn't take nearly a long as my first. Shifting isn't supposed to be painful for a werewolf, but I'm too unhealthy for it to corn natural. When someone shifts into their wolf form they have to use a lot of calories and muscle that I don't have from being starved for years.
I stumble slightly before I catch myself, my legs going weak for a moment. I let out a deep breath and I can see it come out as a small cloud around my muzzle. My large hair moves back and forth as I shake my head to clear it. I pull my small bag of possessions into my mouth and start running into the woods.
---------------------------------------------
There's a very thin layer of snow on the ground, even though its early spring, that makes my paws start to feel the cold. My breath is starting to come out in ragged pants and my pace slows, slower than a regular walking speed. I'm incredibly tired and so is my wolf, but I can't shift back, it's the only way I can keep warm. The sound if growling and paw steps alerts me of another presence to my left.
'Ah, shit!' I scream in my head.
'Ah, shit is right!' Lyla shouts back.
I start running again, still slower than I should be. After about five minutes of running, my lungs feel like they're collapsing, making me stop moving. I can hear the growls moving closer, surrounding me on all sides. I'm breathing heavily and can hear them closing in.
The wolf closest to me shifts, yelling, "What are you doing here rogue!?"
My eyes widen in fear and I start trembling. I scramble backwards on all fours before I fall back on my butt. All five of the wolves eye me up and down, must be noticing that I'm a she-wolf, which are supposed to be cherished in a pack. They all freeze for a moment, most likely mind-linking someone.
"We're staying here, waiting for the Alpha. He'll be here in a second, then we'll decide what to do with you, but for right now, you need to shift."
I do as I'm told and shift, but my bag of clothes got lost while running, so I move onto my knees and cross my arms over my chest, covering as much skin as I possibly can. I feel the cold seeping right into my bones, but I don't want to complain. None of them comment, but I can feel all their eyes on me.
A whimper escapes me as a huge black wolf bounds into the clearing. He doesn't glance at me before going behind a tree and shifting. He comes out wearing only a pair of basketball shorts and I look away in respect before I can ogle over him more. I pick up on an incredible scent that wafts into my nostrils. It smells like woods and a strong scent of apples. It's the most amazing scent I'm ever smelt, and my wolf is going crazy.
'MATE! MATE!' She screams, practically jumping for joy.
My head snaps back up to meet his eyes and his dark brown eyes immediately hold me captive. I want a mate, but I'm afraid he's just going to hurt me or reject me too. His eyes lock with mine and then his widen.
"Mate!" He yells, running straight at me. I flinch back in fear, an a flash of hurt crosses his face. Guilt pools in my stomach, but I don't want anyone to touch me yet, not even my mate. He freezes instantly, and I'm trying to get my breathing under control again. I start to feel faint and I'm starting to wt dizzy. I slump over, and my figure flops sideways onto the forest floor, my head slams into the ground. My mate starts moving towards me again once he sees me fall over.
The last thing I see before everything goes blank, is his hypnotizing brown eyes looking over me.
