Oliver

Aurora fell asleep on my lap a few hours ago and I haven't moved much just when I layed down, pulling her with me. She now whimpers against my chest, fighting off whatever monsters she is facing in her mind. Of course, now I know who the monster is and I want to punch him. Again. The way he chooses a teenaged girl as his victim is distrubing— disgusting.

I should've punched him more but I had wanted to get Aurora away from him as soon as possible. I wanted her to be safe and away from him. Watching her look at my so tenderly and then pass out is something that haunts me. She looked at me like I was her light and then darkness came over her and she left. It took my dad a while to get here and once he did, we made a beeline home.

And that's how he escaped. The son of a bitch wasn't worth our energyto fight. We were only merely interested in getting Aurora safely home to take care of her. I'm about to close my eye when I hear footsteps enter the room. I look up to see my mom walking in with Austin behind her.

She looks at me apologetically knowing that I asked her to have no guests. I turn to Austin and he makes his way and takes a seat on the other couch, taking a seat.

"What are you doing here?", I ask him softly rubbing a hand on Aurora's back when she starts clawing at my chest with her hand. Austin runs a hand down his face and blows out a raspberry.

"I came to check on you", he says and I feel myself scoffing.

"And why is that?", I ask and Austin shrugs.

"You were so exhausted after everything that went down and I wanted to see if you were doing okay", he says and glances down at the girl laying on my chest. She had calmed down now, her hands making their way toward my neck. I smile when her hand plays with my hair.

"I'm fine. I was just worried about Aurora", I say and Austin nods.

He plays with his hand and says,"Was that really her dad?" I nod and Austin frowns. I know seeing the after math of the incident earlier today had to have shaken him up too considering he had a father who was abuse. Not to him though, to his mother, but Austin had gotten involved when he couldn't let his mother get hurt anymore. He took the beatings for her until one day he went to school a few years ago and the counselars asked him about it.

He refused to answer but they persisted and two days later, his father was being dragged out of the house and into a police car. His mother had been so shaken up that she couldn't care for herself or Austin that they came over to my house to stay for a week. My mom helped his mother where as I tried to get my hest freind to smile. It took him a few days but I got him to smile.

Austin has been grateful for me ever since, never once taking me for granted. I loved that about him, he would still be humble even though now he has everything and beyond. He has a step father who still pays eveything for him despite Austin asking him to not bother. His step father takes them on a vacation at least once a year and makes sure to carve time for his mom with work and everything.

But Austin never forgets about what his father did to him and so he always turns back to me to give back. Him being here against my judgement is a way for him to give back.

"Oli", he starts and looks at Aurora, who is now making her way up my chest and into the crook of my neck, "Know that I'm here for you. For Rory. I can find the lawyers that did my father's case."

"I'll ask Aurora about it and get back to you. And thank you, really", I say to him offering him a smile. The girl in my arms starts to stir and I watch as she looks up at me. Her lips curve up and just before she is about to lean up and kiss me, I say,"Austin's here."
