Aurora
He is standing by his car at the end of the day when I find him again. Upon seeing me, he opens the passenger side door and holds it open for me.
"Oliver, I didn't—", I start saying but he only shakes his head.
"It's not my business", he cuts me off and I look down at the floor before getting in the car. He walks back around to his side and starts the car. I swallow and start talking again,"I swear I don't have a boyfriend or anything."
"So a hickey just magically showed up on your neck?", he says in a voice higher than he ever used with me and I try not to cower away at it.
"I swear, Oliver. It's not a hickey", I say and he turns to me at the red light.
"Let me see it?", he asks and I shake my head. He only makes a sound of disapproval and I hold in a breath before pulling down the hood of the hoodie. He skims my neck and then nods once.
"Whatever. Just that, I want to know if you do have a boyfriend. We can break this up", he says and I shake my head.
"You're the first guy who ever talked to me", I whisper so softly he doesn't hear me.
"What?", his hazel eyes lighter in the sunshine.
"You're the first guy who ever talked to me", I say and his eyes widen at my admission.
"No way", he says and the light turns green so he drives.
"Well, a guy who came up to me on his own", I amend and he repeats his previous statement and I let out a sound I wasn't aware of. Was it a chuckle?
He glances at me and it lets me know that he heard me also. A little smile stretches out his face and I avert my gaze, my cheeks heating up.
"So when does the game start?", I ask him as we near my house.
"7 but I have to be here half an hour earlier so I'll come pick you up at 6", he says pulling into my driveway.
"Okay, but don't honk", I say to him and grab my backpack and open the door.
"Later, Rory", he says softly and I nod at him.

Getting out of the house a few hours later is a harder battle than I'd thought. I kept waiting for him to go to his room, but he stayed downstairs laughing at something playing on the television. I had covered the hickey again with more concealer so it doesn't show anymore. I pulled my hair up in a ponytail and my natural hair wavy down my back. I had pulled the jersey off but then realizing that it's his game I put it back on. After looking in the mirror, I found myself looking a little tired.
I put on a little bit of makeup and after looking in the mirror again I saw that I looked presentable. I sneaked a peek downstairs at around 6 and saw my dad staring at the television intently and so I took in a big breath and walked past him. Once I got to the door, I opened it and slipped out before hearing him cursing at me.
I just hoped that when I came back, the alcohol he was drinking would knock him out.

Oliver had gotten to the school half an hour earlier but there were so many people in the gym already. With my finger in his, he led us to the front seats and said,"Sit here."
"So close to the court?", I whispered and he nodded. He started to slip his finger out of mine but I held on tighter and said,"I'm scared."
"Of what, Rory?", he asks soflty and I shake my head.
