Aurora

Today is the day.

We have been at school for a week after break which means it's early January. I have a hearing about the trial this morning. Oliver's mom, Victoria, says that this meeting I won't see my father today but it doesn't help my nerves. It also doesn't help my nerves knowing Oliver cannot come this morning as he has extra practice because the season is ending and he has yet to get recruited.

He is extremely nervous, often times getting anxious even when I try kissing him to calm him down. When he is anxious, he gets too into his head making it difficult to convince him of anything else.

I used to be like that, too. But I am not anymore; not with Oliver at least. He is the one person that I always turn to. Whenever I am feeling a certain way, it is him who helps me out. Oliver isn't trying to shut me out in the battle of his own stress but he kind of is. I've been respecting him enough to not worry though. I'll give him space.

Anyways, Victoria is driving me to the court where I will meet my lawyer. I tried to get a government issued lawyer but Victoria said she had a friend who is very good at her job and that she should offer us less money. I hope that I can pay her in whole, my job offers about 340 every week, which is quiet a bit. I've been also taking extra shifts which helps out a lot.

I want to be financially stable once I graduate, to pay for college maybe even to buy an used car. Oliver promised to teach me to drive once the weather gets better so to not learn to drive in snow.

"She is a very nice woman", Victoria says as we walk into the courthouse. I've never been this afraid before, I wish I could call Oliver. He would know exactly what to say, but I needed to do this without him. I give her a tight lipped smile which makes her eyes soften. Pity, I recognize the feeling and I don't like it. But I guess that's what Victoria can feel for me at the moment.

I hold in a breath as she pushes open the door to a conference room where I meet the lawyer who will be hearing my case. My first thought is that she is beautiful with long red hair and bright blue eyes. She is dressed in a formal suit, the color green complimenting her hair. She smiles when she sees me and says,"Good Morning, my name is Natalia and you must be Aurora Moreno". She extends a hand out of my to shake.

I do so with shaky hands looking up at her,"Yes." She releases her hold on my hand and gestures for me to sit on the chair in front of her. She flips through her notepad and places her hands on the table, her demeanor calm where as my thoughts are so strong it is hard for me to sit still.

"Aurora, your case is fragile but not rare", she starts and I nod. "You're father could be tried with CPS but I understand you don't live with him anymore?"

I take a deep breath in and say,"Yes, the day he had made me pass out from the pain, I called my boyfriend."

"And his name is?", she asks ready to write it down on her notepad. I cross my legs together and say,"Oliver Nolan Baker."

"Okay", she nods writing it down. "Go on, sweetie."

"Right. He found me and took me out of the house. I never went back, only once to grab my clothes but even then I couldn't stay for long. I've been living with my boyfriend and his parents for over two months now."

"And that would be Victoria right?", she asks for confirmation.

"Yes, his mother."

"And since then, had you seen your dad again?", she asks me and I feel sweat bearing down my back.

"Yes", I breathe. "The day I went back for my stuff, when we were pulling out, I saw his car come up and he looked at me. I knew it then that he was going to come for me."
