Aurora
Oliver had gotten me three books which I'm already in love with and also the other stuff I had asked for. He also got me a matching set of pajama which I changed to as soon as I could. When I showed him it, he asked for me to turn and it made me laugh. He only grinned at me with two thumbs up.
His parents made us go down for dinner shortly after he had came back and I tried to eat as much as I could. My appetite wasn't fully back but at least I ate more than I usually did. Oliver and I were about to head back upstairs when his mother stopped us by calling his name. His other name.
"Nolan, why don't you show Aurora to the guest room. I cleaned it out for her", she says looking at me and I nod at her.
"Thank you, Victoria", I say and she nods at me. The both of us head upstairs and Oliver walks us past his room toward the end of the hallway. He opens the door and we walk into the minimalist room, all white and clean. There is a queen sized bed and a nightstand. A dresser sits underneath a mirror and there are a few paintings on the wall.
"Hey look, at least these aren't your paintings", I joke with him and he laughs. I sit on the bed and then look at Oliver. It doesn't feel right being here. When I look at him I realize that it's because I'm going to be alone here. I didn't want to be alone.
"Can you stay?", I ask him and he glances at the door and then back at me. I tuck in a piece of hair behind my ear and say,"Not for the night. Just until after I fall asleep."
He scratches his head but then nods. I tuck myself into bed, pulling the blanket all the way up to my head. I watch Oliver stand there awkwardly in front of me and scoot over to give him space to lay down next to me.
"Just until I fall asleep", I murmur again and he obeys getting into bed beside me. He doesn't get into the blanket though and I try not to frown at that. I put a hand out of the blanket and tap his forehead. He looks at me and I feel myself smile. "Tell me your favorite memory."
"Before or after I met you?", he says softly and I smile harder. He chuckles and I shake my head,"Before."
And so he tells me the story of when he was first gifted a basketball at the age of four, I close my eye and listen as he tells me about how it felt in his hands, how truimpant he felt when he made his first basket. I'm imagining him growing up and learning more skills in the sport as his voice fades and my eyes close.

"I knew you would be back", his voice is far away and yet close. I open the door and walk in to find him sitting on the couch staring at me.
"Where's that boyfriend of yours?", he says with a smirk and I look back trying to find Oliver. He came with me, he should be here. But he is not. I take a hesistant step back out of the house but not before he reaches me and yanks me back inside the house.
"You think you can leave me like your sister? Like your mother?", he shouts spitting in my face. I go up to wipe it but he pins my wrists behind my back and gives me another shove. I'm back on the floor like I was the day before, my head starting to bleed. He kneels down beside me and grabs a chunk of my hair.
"Stop", I say to him, my voice loud. His laugh makes me seem naive though and this time he doesn't have a split second of reminding me of him in the past. This time he knows what he is going to do. This time he executes them with no remorse. Tears slip out of my eyes as he fiercely pulls me up just to hit my head hard on the ground. I shout in pain and he repeats his motion over and over again.
Back and forth.
"Your mother birthed two weak girls", he snarls at me and I feel my head get heavy. He yanks my head again and again and this time it hurts more, it hurts like it is all new again.
