Hope's P.O.V.
After Negan left, I returned to Alexandria, feeling somewhat better. I had needed some time alone, and I had stayed away for a few days to reflect. Although they had taken most of our supplies, I realized that using my powers impulsively could have endangered my friends. They might have captured me to find a cure or used my friends to coerce me into joining them.
I didn’t want that, so I decided to keep a low profile until things calmed down or we came up with a solid plan.
As I entered Alexandria again, I noticed that most of the people were missing. This made me both worried and confused.
I went to Carl’s house, but Olivia answered the door. I frowned.
“Where is everyone?” I asked.
“Out. Scavenging for Negan,” Olivia replied.
“Carl too?” I asked.
“I don’t know. I haven’t seen him for a while.”
I tilted my head slightly and walked past Olivia, heading upstairs to check on Judith. I felt a bit overprotective, knowing she was with Olivia.
I opened the door to her room and saw Judith standing in her crib, looking at me. I smiled at the sight and sat in a chair next to her crib.
Playfully, I asked, “They left you all alone, didn’t they?”
I spent some time with her, playing and singing a song.
~They promised always
They said forever
But in the end I’m left alone
I’ve tried running
But time always finds me
And it will take and take
And what you love is never safe
And everyone you need one day will go
So when you said forever
Any wonder that I ran
But I think I’d rather lose you
Than have never held your hand~In the middle of the song, I heard something coming from downstairs—someone crying. I glanced at Judith one more time and quickly headed downstairs to see what was happening.
As I descended the stairs, I widened my eyes at the sight of Carl, looking shocked without his eye bandage, and Negan standing next to him, smiling at Denise as she left the house, crying.
I tightened my fists, and my eyes glowed orange, but they returned to normal when Carl shook his head, signaling me to stay calm.
Negan turned and saw me. His eyes widened with recognition, and he smiled.
“Is this your friend?” Negan asked Carl, pointing at me.
“I remember you,” he continued, mimicking the swing of his bat. “Yes, you were definitely there. You gave me the same look you’re giving me now. This glare. You might think I didn’t notice, but I did. And I don’t like it. So cheer up and show me around.”
He walked into the living room, inspecting the place, and I took a deep breath to calm myself from attacking him.
Negan eventually ended up in the bathroom. “I don’t think you mind if I take a bath, right?” he asked.
When we didn’t respond, Negan said, “I guess not,” and walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind him.
I glanced at Carl a few times, and once we heard the water running, I pulled him towards the edge of the hallway and looked at him with anger in my eyes.
“What?” Carl asked, looking confused.
“What? That’s what you say? Are you serious? You told me not to do anything, but you went off to Negan’s truck and into the Sanctuary, killing two of his men?!” I demanded.
Carl looked at me, puzzled. “I don’t understand. I just overheard two Saviors talking about it. Vampire hearing, remember?”
“I told you to stay low,” Carl said. “If you tried anything, they would find out about you. You’re our secret weapon. They can’t know yet.”
“But why did you break into the Sanctuary then?” I asked.
“You didn’t see how they treated us when they came in here and took everything. Then they went to Hilltop where Maggie and Sasha are. I jumped into the back of the truck, blinded by rage. You would have been too.”
“I get it,” I said. “We’re both hot-headed, but that was still stupid.”
“I know,” Carl admitted. “And I also know that someone is about to die, and it will be my fault.”
“Well, let’s just hope he kills me,” I said.
Carl looked at me in shock, and I rolled my eyes.
“I’m immortal, duh,” I said.
The bathroom door opened again, and Negan stepped out, glancing at both of us before focusing on Carl.
“I bet you still don’t know how to shave. Come on, I’ll show you,” Negan said, motioning for Carl to follow him into the bathroom.
Carl walked to the bathroom door while Negan stood in front of the mirror, starting to shave.
I rolled my eyes and quietly opened Judith’s door. She was sleeping peacefully, so I closed the door again.
I looked at Carl and then at my hands, contemplating. What if I used my powers? It would be so easy to flick my wrist and have Negan fall dead.
With a smirk, I started walking toward the bathroom, my powers ready to strike. My eyes flashed orange with veins beneath them, and a yellow essence covered my right hand as I prepared to attack Negan.
