~Flashback

A five years old Devi stood at the school gate waiting for her mumma, but she saw her father and was stunned as it was unusual, by this time her father is at office. She thought to enquire her curiosities when home as even though a kid she knew better than to break rules to not unleash the wrath of her parents, it was told her that if any questions you must ask only at home. Coming from school she entered the apartment only to not find her mother home. "Papa, mumma?" She asked in her soft voice to which her father answered, "Guddu come first change your clothes and I'll tell you after you have the snacks."

Nodding her head she moved towards her father and he helped her get into her casuals, keeping her uniform back to its place.

Devi being the only child, she was the center of attention for her parents. They were strict, yet loving. His father knew Devi has fast food for her snacks, though unhealthy and was completely against it, yet brought Dabeli for her and she ate sharing a bite with her father.

The father-Daughter duo was now sitting peacefully. Devi in her father's lap and he said, "Gudiya, today in the afternoon when you left for the school and I was about to go to office, we had a fight and your mumma left."

The sentence shook her, not the fight but her mother leaving. She was used to her parents' fight but could never stop it, crying in a corner trying to silent her sobs to an extent where it was difficult for her to even breathe.

Tears left her eyes and she didn't open her mouth as usual. "Don't cry beta, you know right it's always your mother's fault. You've seen it always. Whenever we fight it's her fault today was the same. Don't worry we'll do something. "

It was too much for a five year old to decide between her parents, who is wrong and right when she can't even differ between wrong and right. Though she knew the consequences of saying no to her father and thus slowly nodded.

She was still crying and so not being able to see his daughter cry, her father took her to nearby P. C. O and called her maternal Grandparents. He handed the phone to Devi as her Maasi picked up the call and Devi spoke through her sobs, stuttering and hiccuping badly, "Ma..asi... Mu.. Mu... Mmma"

Her Maasi replied, "Calm down Gudiya, your mumma is here. Talk to her"

"Hello Gudiya"
As the girl heard her Mother's voice, she cried unstoppable now. "..Mumma...."

D/M: "Gudiya I'll bring you here soon. Don't cry. I'll talk to you everyday. Study hard. Go to your tuition and get good grades. Don't be a bad girl okay?"

Her mother how she was stopping herself to not let her voice break while her daughter was on the call. Despite her ways, she was her mother and Devi was everything for her.
