We were now back at home in our room as Sam sat at his desk with his laptop open, along with a few old-looking books spread out on his desk with Sam nervously fidgeting with a pen as he tapped it on the open journal to the side, his eyes glued to the laptop screen with old paintings of angels filling in between the text.
I came through the door with a cup of coffee and a bottle of jack in either hand, closing the door behind me and stopping behind Sam's chair, "You sure you feel okay?"
Sam shrugged it off, glancing back at me, "I'm fine, I just-"
His eyes stopped on the bottle of Jack, giving me a look when I shook my head and offered it to him, "It's not for me? I didn't know which would make you feel better, so I brought both?"
Sam let out a breath, hesitantly reaching for the bottle of Jack before slowly turning back and shaking his head, "Just one drink, okay? Don't let me have the whole thing."
I nodded with a slightly worried look on my face and set the cup of coffee on the nearby dresser top when I came over, bringing my hands up around his shoulders as I stood behind his chair, "I know, Sam. I know you're trying to focus, and stay relaxed for me, but you can't hide it from me? I know how much this is all freaking you out right now-"
"I'm not freaked out?"
I gave him a look, raising my eyebrows slightly when Sam started to twist the cap off the bottle and shake his head, "I'm just... Slightly more stressed than usual?"
He started to drink from the bottle when I shrugged, making a face, "You're freaked out, Sam. I am too, I mean... I don't know why it didn't occur to me sooner that I'd be giving birth to a Nephilim? Or to you, for that matter?"
Sam finally took the bottle away from his lips, making a face as he swallowed and set the bottle down on his desk in a free spot, shaking his head and raising his eyebrows slightly, "I'm not saying it never occurred to me? I just thought we'd have a little more time before we had to teach him how to control his powers?"
I shrugged in agreement when Sam's eyes started to fixate on one spot again, his voice trailing off, "He's not even born yet..."
I leaned in closer, wrapping my arms around his shoulders and neck as I pressed my cheek against the side of his head, "Don't think about that right now, okay? Maybe you should take a break from all of this? You said it yourself, you don't think there's ever been a Nephilim born from an Archangel?"
Sam let out a breath, raising his eyebrows and shaking his head as he reached up for my hand, "There's gotta be something out there... I'm just not seeing it?"
I pulled away, coming around and turning his chair around before Sam swiveled back, looking up at me as I started to sit on his lap and reach up for his face with a half smile, "I know you're just trying to be as prepared as you possibly can, but there are just some things you can't always plan for? Unfortunately, having an Arch-Nephilim baby is one of them? He might be the first in existence? You said it yourself, there hasn't been a Nephilim born in thousands of years-"
"Cat, I know you're just trying to make me feel better, but... You're not really helping?"
I made a face, smiling halfway and shrugging, "Sorry. You're better at this whole encouraging thing than I am?"
Sam smiled halfway, letting out a laugh as he started to wrap his arms around me and shrugged, "I do my best? This doesn't mean I'm not still happy about having this baby with you-"
