CHAPTER 4: Supernatural

[New-york City, General Hospital]
[1:00 p.m]

Max slowly opened the door.

For a second, the light pouring through the window blinded him.

Then he saw her.

Eleina sat upright in bed, annoyed expression and all.

She blinked.

"Oh."

Her expression softened.

"You're awake... I'm glad you're okay."

Max froze.

The ache in his chest loosened.

Max blinked several times before smiling weakly.

"I'm glad... you're okay."

2 Day Later........

Max and Eleina were finally discharged and were allowed to go home, Max's Mom came and picked them up, after 20 minutes of driving they arrived at Eleina's house and dropped her off.

"Thank you for the ride Ms. Sterling, you shouldn't have." Eleina said.

Sarah smiled.

"Oh, don't worry about it, honey. We're practically family."

During the rest of the ride back home, Max was in deep thought thinking about everything that had happened, his situation, and reliving the events in the old lab.

*What was that portal?What did it do to my body? Did it have an effect on Eleina too? So many questions but no answers to them.*

"Uuuggghhhh!"

Max leaned his head against the window and groaned.

"Are you ok sweetie? It looks like you're in deep thought back there." Sarah asks.

Max stared out the window.

"It's nothing."

He hesitated.

"Just thinking."

"Well, if you need someone to talk to I'm all ears."

Max nodded.

"Thanks, Mom."

*I'll have to do some research to find out.*

After a while they arrived home, when Max was opening the door house something jumped at Max, knocking him over.

"Ouch! seriously!, I just came back from the hospital and you're already trying to force me back, hehe."

Max jokes.

"intense licking"

As we see, the creature that jumped Max was an Alaskan klee Kai named Yukon. Max's best bud.

"Cut it out Yukon! It tickles!

Max tries to stop Yukon.

"Seems like Yukon missed you." Sarah states.

"I missed you too buddy, come let's play in the yard."

Yukon chased a ball.

Max laughed.

For the first time since the lab—

Everything felt normal.

Moments later...

Sarah steps out to the backyard porch and sees Max, playing happily with Yukon. He looks happy, full of energy for someone who was just discharged and most of all, he's safe, her mind paused on the word "safe" remembering that sight of her son in the hospital unconscious for a second. Then she decides that it's getting late and calls them back in.
