|| CHAPTER 9 – Just Like Him ||(Season 1 Ep 10 – 'Nobody Is Ever Missing' )
---
(A/N – Finale time! The brilliance of this episode is what solidified Succession as one of my all-time favourite shows and what sparked my desire to write this story. So, while I've been excited, there was also a lot of fear. But I'm actually very proud of how it turned out. It's intense for reasons you'll already know, but it's also a very rough one for Elizabeth. My poor girl.)
---
Elizabeth never would have imagined herself as thinking of an event associated with the Roy's, as beautiful. But that was exactly how she had felt about the wedding ceremony. It had felt intimate despite the number of guests and when set against the resplendent antiquity of an English church, the power and influence of all the people in attendance had been diminished in a way that was oddly comforting.
In terms of the exchanging of the vows between the couple, Elizabeth's feelings were far less straightforward. The more time she had spent with Shiv and Tom, the more she realised that they absolutely had love for each other, but the way it manifested was far from healthy and could very easily have painful consequences. They had quite possibly one of the most complicated dynamics she had ever encountered.
What the day had also solidified, however, was that Elizabeth had come to truly care for them both, as she knew they had in their own ways, for her.
So, for the first time since she had become involved with Stewy and his business machinations, she was feeling remorse at how she had kept Shiv in the dark. Not because she felt she had behaved immorally, but because she had hidden things from someone she cared about and respected.
It had been a long time since she'd felt that way, about anyone or anything.
And it was only going to get worse, because she was sure that the hostile takeover was being announced to Logan that very day.
Back at the castle, Elizabeth watched from the stone steps as Shiv and Tom had their photos taken, bridesmaid's, groomsmen and various family members swapped out for different group shots.
The sky was clear of clouds, but the sun was shining slovenly; offering no true warmth or letting any fortifying light fall upon them, causing the backdrop of rolling hills and trees bereft of leaves to seem somewhat flat. The low stone wall at their backs was lined with garlands of white flowers that matched Shiv's bouquet and the hairpiece in her fiery curls. Her dress was simple, yet beautiful, the whole thing covered in lace that also made up its sleeves.
They were a fair distance away, but Shiv caught Elizabeth's gaze across the mass of people that were milling around and gave her a smile that made her stomach lurch.
