Shiv was unhappy.

No.

Unhappy wasn't the right word.

Incensed felt more appropriate.

She had gone with Tom to visit Logan, who had been moved home from the hospital a few days ago, but Marcia hadn't let her see him. And now, she seemed convinced that her stepmother was trying to murder her father, or that she'd already done it and was trying to cover it up.

The couple had headed right over to the Waystar | Royco offices after the failed visit, which was where Elizabeth had been instructed to wait, and now the three of them were heading in to see Shiv's brothers. Presumably so she could fill them in on the development. Or force them into action. It wasn't entirely clear yet.

After all the arguing at the hospital, Kendall had still ended up being announced as acting CEO with Roman as his COO. Which confused Elizabeth slightly because she was under the impression Roman had been ousted from the business for being generally quite useless.

Not that that seemed like a barrier to success in the business world.

All of which meant that there was, as always, a lot going on, and Elizabeth was trying her best to be present and focused, but that was made very difficult by the fact that she was running on exactly zero hours of sleep.

She had received a phone call at eleven O'clock the night before from her father's girlfriend Maria, letting her know he had been taken to the hospital after having a seizure. Elizabeth had gone straight over there and hadn't left until five AM.

They had been warned that it was something that could happen because of the pressure on the brain from the increased swelling, but it had still been an unbalancing shock. Elizabeth had just started coming to terms with the fact he was starting to get severe headaches and was becoming drowsier, but then she had seen him unconscious in a hospital bed, with wires attached to him and needles poking into his skin.

While he was stable and in the safest possible hands, the mere sight of him had callously rid her of any of her last vestiges of denial. She couldn't bury her head in the sand anymore. His deteriorating condition wasn't something that could be ignored.

There had been a subtle brutality to it.

It was only worsened by the fact that they didn't know how long he'd have. He was on steroids to try and reduce the pressure from the tumour but eventually they would stop working. As far as she could gather, over time the drowsiness would worsen, he'd sleep for longer, becoming difficult to wake and then he'd one day just slip into unconsciousness and never get up again.
