Yes, I nicked the title off spiderman, suck it up.
David laughed his head off as Joy and Ann spun in a circle trying to see their new tails. 'Ha, dorks.' To David's surprise, the thought came from Mark and David turned to him. "You do know you have one too. Mister Dork." Mark's jaw about hit the floor, "I-I do?" "My guess, is that it's because your tribes use them as primary or secondary weapons, more so than all the other tribes." Alex said, joining the conversation. "That's all well and good brainiac," Joy grumbled swinging her tail around, "but how do we control these things?" She swung it around wildly again, and almost beheaded Grace. "Woah-ho evil knievel! Careful there, yours is poisonous remember. Idiot." Apparently, Grace objected to nearly dying this early in the day. David had an idea, "Try controlling it automatically, don't think about it, like you don't think about breathing." "Well thanks David," Ann growled, fighting with her powerful tail, "Now I'm aware of my breathing."
It took several minutes for the tails to get under control. And the Alex suddenly sneezed. And blew fire. "DUDE!" All attention snapped to Alex at Andy's shout. "That was SO COOL!" Mark butted in, "Could we all do that?" "You can't," David replied, "you can probably do ice though. Lucky you, Ann and Grace can't do anything." "Check again!" Grace shouted from across the clearing. She was standing next to a half-melted bush. "RainWing venom mate, did you forget?" "Apparently so," muttered David. He was slightly occupied by the voices in hid head, that had gotten louder as the excitement had increased. "Hold up guys," Joy said, "What's the cure for RainWing venom?"
There was a nasty pause. "Find a relative?" David tried. "Easily done then," Mark said, waving his hand at everyone. "Here we all are." "A relative with venom," Alex retorted. Mark presented Joy. "Joy had a different kind of venom genius." Andy told him. "And we need cactus juice for hers by the way. Otherwise, it'll be lethal." "Ooh yes!" Joy exclaimed. "Ooh no." Andy admonished. "Back to me," Grace interrupted before Joy could argue what a good idea killing Robert would be. "What do we do?" David summed up everyone's thoughts. "Put the fangs away for now." Grace bared her teeth at David, showing two long, very pointy fangs. They slid back into her gums as Joy spoke. "What are we supposed to do with these powers? I mean, bring the dragons back, yes, but how?"
"Maybe help people?" Ann suggested, "Y'know, help people who need it, gradually change people's minds about dragons? That's the only way they'll come back, right? If humankind accepts them?" Everyone thought for a good, long time. David could tell that they were just realising that the future of Dragonkind rested on their young shoulders. 'And I'm only nine, for moon's sake!' "We've got a responsibility to help fix the world guys." David said, "I suggest we use it. There will always be people who try to make things worse for us." Joy rubbed the scar on her eye. "I think it's our job to at least try and make things better." "Agreed," Andy said, "so we do the little things and help where we can." For once, they all agreed on something without at least one argument.
Alex broke the solemn mood by deciding to point out the Joy's rather large and obvious scar was clearly visible as a part of her mask, and apparently it was 'so cool!' David rolled his eyes at his brother's antics. Alex found at least one thing the was 'so cool,' each week. This raised a serious question in David's mind, however. 'We need a place to transform where no one can see us.' When he pitched the question to his cousins and siblings, it took a while to come up with a good place. Eventually, Ann suggested the library. "We'd have to let Kuzon, the librarian, in on it." Grace declared, "I think it's only fair, he lets us basically live in there."
Andy also suggested using 'codenames,' whenever they were in hybrid or dragon form, to 'prevent people from knowing who to arrest if this goes south.' After much debate, they decided, that in honour of the dragons who gave them powers, they would use the names they were given. Heatstroke, Marshfly, Acacia, Blizzard, Current, Peak, and Ashflare.
'Okay,' David thought, as they made their way to the library. 'Let's go change the world... one small step at a time.'
Whatcha think? Let me know! I have most of this story planned out but updating is a pain, sorry.
Have a great day!
