The gongs sounded and Blossom made her way to her last class. She tried to focus on her classes but something had been nagging on the back of mind. This morning.
Ever since Peacemaker left the library that morning, he was acting off. Sure he was the same old Peacemaker but he had a different look in his eyes, like he was part other dragon.
Blossom vividly remembered the look in his eyes and the slack in his voice from the hall. She was scared for him.
She wound her way through the students in the hall and found her next class. History. She stepped into the room. Bayou was already here with another Mudwing, but this Mudwing was completely blue.
"Blossom!" he spotted her and waved her over. "I want you to meet my sister, Terracotta or Echo for short." he pushed his sister forward and she waved shyly.
"She is really shy, that's why we call her Echo." He whispered in Blossoms ear.
Echo shuffled on the spot and looked up at Blossom, her brown eyes beautiful against her deep blue.
"So um hello. What is your favourite subject...?" Echo murmured shyly.
"Hm, I'd have to say...I really enjoy art. And I like animus history." Blossom said, trying to be as kind as she could too a possible friend.
Echo smiled. "I like art as well. I almost spilled my pots of paint on the professor though."
Blossom giggled and Moonwatcher entered the room. She had that expression again, like she was being stabbed in the forehead. Peacemaker crossed the room and nudged Blossom. He saw it as well. The expression had grown deeper.
Echo and Bayou made their way to a spot at the front of the class room, Blossom and Peacemaker followed.
They sat next to Bumblebee and Acmon at the desk closest to the front.
"Class today, we are going to learn about the scorching. Mink, can you please collect the reading scrolls and hand them out to the rest of the class?" Moonwatcher announced, pointing at a small Icewing in the back row. Mink stood up and bounced to the front of the classroom. Aqualon sneered at the dragonet, his teeth gleaming.
"Aqualon. For your behaviour you may come to the front of the class room and speak the text aloud." Moonwatcher growled, Blossom could see that she didn't like the voice that was talking in his head.
Aqualon shrunk in his seat, looking like a young dragonet. His face was glassed over immediately with a angry expression. Maybe this was just an act. But how could she trust him?
Mink handed Blossom a scroll and she unrolled until she reached the part on the scorching.
"Aqualon. Speak. Read until the second paragraph." Moonwatcher smiled.
Aqualon squinted at the paper, his mouth wording the words and then he began. "The-uh-Scorching-was-a-um-uh-host-uh-turrical-event-"
"That's enough Aqualon. Your reading is agonising. Sit down." Moonwatcher rubbed her temples. Aqualon trudged back to his seat.
"Blossom may you read." Moonwatcher asked her politely.
Blossom nodded and rose out of her seat. "The Scorching was a historical event that shaped Pyrrhia today. The world around us is the result of the scorching even though how it took place is often frowned upon."
Blossom read until the end of the chapter and then sat down in her seat again. Moonwatcher smiled in appreciation, she had listened to every word.
"Okay now that we have read the chapter I want you all to write a small poem, something that will stick in your mind. To tell you of how the world came to be today. After that, you will have free discussions."
Moments passed and the scratching of ink on paper started to sound. Blossom started thinking through words in her mind.
. . .
The class was talking, questions for the teacher were starting to flow.
"When do we learn about Darkstalker?"
"What is the assessment this term going to be?"
Peacemaker rose his hand and the unfamiliar look came back into his eyes.
"Yes Peacemaker?" Moonwatcher asked, something underneath her smile said something like she didn't trust him. For what reason?
"May I be excused?" Peacemaker rose from his stool and made his way to the door, even before Moonwatcher said, "Of coarse."
Peacemaker bounded down the hallway, a smile was gleaming on his face, not the warm ones he always wore, a cold one that didn't belong to him. Kinkajou, the queens assistant came into the room instead of Peacemaker.
"Goodness that dragonet was in a bit of a hurry... Moon are you alright?" Kinkajou asked, worry on her face as she stared towards the front of the class.
Moonwatcher started to look woozy again. She sat down, but this time she stood up.
Her eyes flickered white, she tried to hold her tongue, but the words flowed out of her mouth.
"Petals of flames, Petals of glory,
A monster returns from It's roots
The vengeful eyes of many see towards the darkness,
The world will shatter and crumble
Unless a world unlike ours were dragons rumble
The ones we lost
To bring forth the light payed there will be a great cost
Vines that choke
and through the smoke
Reborn is the wings of fire"
Moonwatcher fell silent, the whole class fell silent.
"Where's the flower?" Moonwatcher whispered, she repeated it louder. "Where is the flower?!"
Kinkajou's eyes grew wide in horror, she started to back out of the class. She turned on her heals and dashed out of the classroom and down the hall towards the way Peacemaker had gone down. The rest of the class stood up and ran towards the front of the class, making sure that Moon was alright.
Blossom had other plans.
She ran out of the room after Kinkajou.
All she could see was the tip of the professors tail as she dashed around the corners of the hall, avoiding students.
Blossom ran as fast as she could, the halls curved so frequently it was almost hard not to loose someone. The professor finally turned into a cave. The Rainwing Professor cave.
Blossom slowed and flattened herself against the wall, which was shadowed. She couldn't be seen.
"No No No No No No!" Kinkajou shrieked from inside the room. Blossom peaked in.
Kinkajou was cupping something in her claws, something black and white. Blossom carefully stuck to the shadow and creeped into the cave.
Kinkajou was looking at the object in her claws, her eyes were big and terrified.
A flower was in her talons. And it was crushed.
