It was lights out and away they went. Lewis had an absolute mega start and was side to side with Max. They were reaching the first corner, still wheel to wheel and I held my breath. They went through and... Lewis was through! He took the place from Max and rode off. Max sat this fight out a bit. But in a matter of seconds he was making a jump again. Trying to get to the inside of Lewis. He failed and locked up before he would hit the side of Lewis.
Talk about aggressive riding. They were fighting really hard. Max really wanted to get that place from Lewis and he was pushing through the chicane now. He went to the outside and went wheel to wheel again out of the exit. They got the straight line and it was now pure speed that could decide who would go first through the corner and...
"AND THERE'S A BIG CRASH! THE RED BULL AND MERCEDES HAVE FOUND THE GRAVEL." The spectator screamed on the live stream and I held my breath once again. Tears sprung up and I shook while I tried to hold them back. Pete saw how I was shaking and laid an arm around my shoulders to comfort me.
"Is he okay?" I asked Pete through my hiccups. My voice was also shaking. Just like my whole body was.
"He'll get out of the car. No worries." Lewis had won the last 5 races in a row and was immensely ahead of the rest of the field. This crash would not affect his run for the trophy. But maybe this crash would affect the amount of races he would get to race. Next week was the Italian GP and if he would get out of this crash with something broken he wouldn't be able to race.
A minute went by, and finally a radio message came through. "I'm alright. Getting out now. Is Max alright?" Lewis said through the radio and I felt my heart rate drop. Thank the gods he was safe. He jumped out and walked towards the Red Bull that was stranded in the gravel as well. Lewis bent down a bit and laid a hand on Maxs shoulder. Max put up a thumb and started to get out of the car as well, for him it was more of a struggle. He got hit badly. He wouldn't move his right arm, that was also the side that hit the barrier before he bounced back into the gravel. Lewis wasn't going that fast and just grabbed some gravel. Luckily no big damage to the car. But that Red Bull was completely shattered. Lewis helped him out of the car and they both walked to the medical car that was waiting for them at the side of the track. The race was stopped with a red flag and all the cars were safely in the pits. All this in one lap. This was crazy.
I stood up and walked up to the door that led to the paddock. Pete jumped up the moment he saw what I was going to do. "Jude. No don't do it. They will see you." I ignored his request. I couldn't let Lewis sit there and just... he was in pain and I had to be with him. I got out of the facility and walked straight through the paddock, towards the garage. There was no one in the paddock because of the race, but when I would enter the garage the camera would immediately focus on me. I took that risk and walked towards the entrance of the garage. I walked through the little hallway and than went straight to Toto, who was sitting at his desk in the back of the garage. "Toto." I said his name and he turned around, shocked.
"Jude, what are you doing here?!" Toto looked at me in disbelief. "Lewis has to go to the medical center. To get checked out." He explained, as if he knew what went through my head exactly at that point.
"Where is that center? I need to see him, Toto." My voice started to shake again and a shiver went down my spine, making me shiver all over my body even though it was 30 degrees outside.
"I can't take you..." he looked around the garage and raised his eyebrows when he made eye contact with one of the guys in the garage. He immediately came forward and asked what he had to do.
"Take this lady to the medical center, please. And don't go near any cameras." Toto made sure I was kept hidden. But I don't think that would've made any difference by now. I already saw myself on the camera. And, oh, I was doomed.
We rushed to the medical center. Luckily there were only a few people that saw us. But I couldn't care less. I just ran to the garage and now to the medical center. I couldn't care about my leg more than Lewis.
It was a long walk, but we finally reached the building where Lewis would be. I saw the medical car that was earlier on the track now parked further down the paddock, and blinded I walked towards the entrance for the medical center. But before I could even open the door it flew open. I looked up and angry eyes met mine, but within a second those angry eyes turned into chocolate brown eyes. They were a deep pool of swirled emotions. I saw all his emotions flashing through those eyes. Without even saying a word he pulled me in his arms and stepped outside. He held me close to him, as if he wouldn't want to let me go ever again. He pulled away the slightest and put a kiss on my forehead, making me melt against him.
I kept my head against his chest and listened to his heartbeat. "I was so scared... I thought I lost you." My voice was hoarse, as if I had been screaming, but the only thing I did was cry. Tears streamed down my cheeks and made his race suit all wet.
"You won't lose me... you'll never lose me." His thumbs went up and down on my arms, making me calm down even more. "I'm okay, Jude. No injuries." I breathed out and let the tears stop falling. I looked up from his chest and drowned in his chocolate brown eyes.
"Is he okay?" I asked, wanting to make sure Max was also doing fine since he had trouble to stay on his feet a few minutes ago.
Lewis pressed the smallest kiss on my lips. "He hasn't broken anything, I think. But he'll be sore for sure." He pulled me back in his arms and held me close. "Thanks for taking her here." Lewis said to the guy from the garage. I heard footsteps and the guy had left us, it was probably too embarrassing to stay.
"I'm sorry that your race is already over." I said, I felt so bad for him. He was actually excited to be back racing.
"Don't apologise, you didn't do anything wrong. Even though you didn't listen to the doctors. You had to stay home, Jude, this isn't good for your leg." Lewis said and I shook my head.
"I don't care what those doctors say. I wanted to be there for you. And I'm done with laying down the whole day.
"Of course you are." He chuckled and placed a kiss on my forehead again. "I think I have some interviews to do... will you wait in my room? I'll join you as fast as I can." He smiled down at me and I nodded.
"Fine. But don't take too long, please. You do need to rest." I stood on my tiptoes and gave him a long, soft kiss.
"I won't take long." And with that he left towards the stands, where people were already setting up cameras.
