The next morning after breakfast, Lia and Alice sat in the living room with photos of Greta and evidence scattered all over the table. The two were throwing out theories and seeing all the similarities between the two disappearances as if suddenly all the edges of the puzzles were being put together. But to fill in the puzzle they needed to find not only the kidnapper but Aya herself.
Lia suddenly recalled her thoughts on Mr Shroom.
"Wait! Mr Shroom!"
"What?" Alice said extremely confused, you see she didn't know who he was, she was halfed when they'd first had a class with him.
"Mr Shroom! Oh yeah you don't know who he is, do you?" Before Alice could answer Lia pulled out the old school photo. "Look! That's him"
Alice inspected the photo for a second before she finally said something "That's Miss Woolton, how do you know she wasn't the kidnapper?"
"She's been here for years, loads of people would've gone missing, think about it"Lia said
Alice thought about it, a little unconvinced until she remembered that she saw Miss Woolton marking papers in her office as usual. Alice quickly killed that theory.
"Alice, think about it. A student goes missing and twenty years later and the same person happens to be around when both people go missing"
Alice listened but suddenly all the theories went quite.
"We should just talk to him" Alice said
"What! We can't just talk to him, that's a little weird"
"Have we even reported Aya missing" Alice said it dawning on her
"No, we didn't, we may have lied and said that she went on a family holiday"
"Really? Surely the teachers can help"
"No! No they can't they won't all they'll do is call the police and Aya will end up like Greta"
Alice shook a little asking the question but she just about strung together the sentence "what happened?"
"She was murdered or died due to her injuries. I saw her by the lake when I went to-to save you" Lia swallowed hard.
Alice and Lia sat in silence, Alice looked over at one of the articles she hadn't examined before.
"What's that?"
"Oh it's bullshit ignore it" Lia said going to pick up the paper and tuck it away
"No let me read it"
"Its rubbish though" Lia said
"What's a shadowoodling" Alice said
"You've never heard of shadowood"
"Funny enough no" Alice said
"Right" Lia said before grabbing her wand and waving it in a spiral motion. The papers, books and newspapers cuttings immediately flew up onto the balcony and blueberry tea flew out in front of them.
Lia cleared her throat and began ominously "In beginning the school was created by five people, Eartha Green, Ari Mist, Firva Phoenix, Watera Fall and Evila Black. Their were five elements they made Ari, Eartha, Firva and Watera had all stated their elemental type and what their values were. Evila wasn't sure, she panicked and started something in a lake just off of the school sight. One night a horrible, deadily race of creatures emerged from within the lake. That's when the dark ages began, hundreds of students from within the school were taken by the creatures many died. Eventually the rest of them decided no person with the same elemental type as Evila would ever be allowed at the school. The creatures were trapped in a forest and so was Evila. Myth says that she still wonders the forest."
"And the creatures?" Alice asked
"Them to, did you miss the part about the banishing" Lia joked
"Oh yeah, well crazy theory but maybe Evila's kidnapper Aya"
"It's a legend, it's likely not true" Lia said
The bell for first lesson rang and the two of them quickly waved their wands beckoning their bags and brooms and clearing away the tea. Alice's phoenix flew onto her shoulder.
The pair of them rushed down the stairs - they weren't allowed to fly on their brooms inside - and down to the courtyard. They arrived just in the nick of time.
"Right, hello students sorry to inform you but Mrs Green has to clear up some issues with other students, so I will be covering your broomstick practice lesson" said Mr Shroom walking into the courtyard.
Lia and Alice had snuck into the neat line, Alice had stood next to Harry. Their pets were playing with each other, Harry's dragon was jumping around while the phoenix was turning around in circles trying to catch the joyful little, white dragon.
Lia had stood next to this girl called Izzy. They had known each other for a while but Alice knew little of this girl but she knew that her and Lia were close but in what nature she wasn't sure.
"Right well it seems you all know how to fly so take one of these orienteering maps and go find these potion ingredients. I'll see you back here at-" Mr Shroom said checking his watch and readjusting his rounded glasses.
"But sir, don't you want to like monitor us?" Lia asked suspiciously
"No I feel like a fun cover lesson works for today, I'll just get on with some work. Come back if you need anything though" he said
Everyone took a map and set off within seconds. Alice set of but heard a little glass jar be knocked over from beneath her. She turned around.
"Come on Al, look we can basically go wherever we want"
"You go ahead, I'll-I'll catch you up" Alice said distracted. Harry didn't give it a second thought and set off after Iggy and Abby. Alice went and hid behind a turret and watched Mr Shroom with great suspicion and fear.
