Acadia Rose's POV, 10 years
“Daddy! Daddyyyyy! Get up! I have to go to school!” I said, shaking him lightly. He made a noise and rolled over to face me, opening his eyes.
“What time is it?” He asked groggily.
“It's 8:45! School starts at 9:00!” I exclaimed.
“Alright Ace, I'll be ready in 10 minutes.” He said, seemingly more awake. I padded back out of the room and grabbed my backpack from its resting place in the middle of the hallway, then sat down on the couch with a flump. I had a thing with being late. When Daddy came into the living room I jumped up and hugged him.
“Good morning Daddy.” I said with a grin on my face. He picked me up like he did when I was little and kissed the top of my head, then set me back down. It didn't bother me that I didn't have a mom, but everyone in my class thought it was funny. They all had their happy families, and I had my daddy. He grabbed his keys and we hurried outside into the car.
“So Acadia, what are you going to be doing in class today?” He asked, keeping his eyes on the road. I shrugged.
“We have a field trip to the zoo.” I said, looking out the window. Something buzzed beside me and I jumped a little.
“Daddy, your phone.” I handed it to him. He clicked a button and began talking to someone.
“Not now!” He said. I wondered who he was talking to. He hung up and sighed.
“Sorry Ace, you're going to have to skip the field trip today. There's somewhere we've gotta go.” The car took an abrupt turn and my head smacked off of the window.
“Oof. Why do we have to go somewhere else? Where are we going?” I whined. He didn't like it when I whined.
“Daddy's gotta go to work.”
