A Banner At Heart (Avengers Fanfiction) Chapter Six:

STEVE'S POV

Bruce had screwed up pretty bad by not telling Fury about Acadia. I screwed up just as bad for keeping him out of it. Ace and Bruce stepped awkwardly into the room and she hid behind him.

“I'm sure you all want to know what the hell is happening.” He said, while Acadia pulled out a chair for herself.

“Actually, I could care less, but Fury dragged me here..” Said Natasha, lazily slouching in the chair to my left.

“Yes, always lovely to know how you feel, Nat.” Bruce said sarcastically. Ace was sat back in her chair, trying a bit to disappear. Everyone seemed to be staring at her. Bruce looked at me.

“Steve, would you mind taking Acadia and making her something to eat? She hasn't eaten since this morning.” He asked. I nodded and led her out of the room towards the kitchen.

Bruce's POV

I sighed.

“Alright, answers. Six years ago, I adopted a baby girl named Acadia Rose. I didn't tell any of you, because I didn't want her to know about my...secret. I wanted to keep her safe. But I knew eventually you'd find out.. Unfortunately, this isn't the way I wanted it to go. Acadia doesn't know she's adopted and just thinks I'm her father and that her mother died when she was young.” I finished, trying to avoid the stares that were boring into my face.

“So let me get this straight.. You lie to your daughter about the fact that she's adopted?” Nat said slowly. I nodded.

“Yeah.. She's only six, Natasha.” I explained, hoping she'd understand. Thor cleared his throat.

“I think, everyone, that we should help him. It's hard enough that he must betray his daughter in such a way that it keeps her safe. I propose that we assist him with this.” There were nods all around the room.

“We'll help, Banner,” Fury said, “if you continue to be a regular part of SHIELD.” He finished. I nodded.

“I will. Anything to keep her safe.”
