Sunday, 25th December, 2016 : Christmas Day

Blossom's Point of View
After a long, peaceful rest, I woke up to the aroma of immaculate soul food. If it's one thing, my aunt never fails to cook up a storm every Christmas.

It was already quarter past 11 in the morning and my aunt was already halfway done with the food. I felt bad because I would normally help her cook, especially on Christmas.

I came out of bed and cautiously proceeded down the steps; I didn't know if she'd be upset. As I creeped down the stairwell, one of the steps creaked under my weight. My aunt looked back, sharply.

"Oh, God!" I mouthed.

"Blossom?" she called out.

I came around the corner and greeted her as I walked closer to her.

"Good Morning, Aunty. Merry Christmas!" I said before kissing her on her cheek.

Aunt Judith looked down smiling as she cut the bell peppers.

"Merry Christmas to you too, Blossom."

"Do you need any help?"

"I'm glad you asked; I left the ham and Mac and cheese for you to do," She said pointed at the frozen ham and the boxes of elbow pasta further down on the counter.

She continued, "I was going to wake you up to come down at 7AM, but I figured you were really tired so I let you be."

"Aw, thank you, but you should get some rest."

"Oh, you don't have to tell me twice," she chuckled, " I was already planning to leave you down here to finish, take a shower then sleep before  Daniel comes over."

I rolled my eyes then laughed in disbelief.
"This woman; give me strength," I said to myself.

I looked around the kitchen and so far my aunt did cornbread, mashed potatoes, turkey, gravy and she was currently making yellow rice.

The turkey sat on the counter in all its brown, golden glory. While she had her back turned, I tore off a piece of a drumstick. My aunt quickly realized and swatted me with her pot spoon.

"You didn't come down here to lend a helping hand, you came to lend your long gut," she insulted as she squinted her eyes.

I covered my full mouth in shock. This woman is making me feel like I'm starting on my 600lb life. It was just a piece of turkey...
