Jace tried to get away from the campfire as soon as he could.

Don't get him wrong, it was nice that Piper got claimed, and Jason somewhat got claimed as well. Which means....Jace has to sleep alone with Jack again. Oh boy, he was not looking forward to that.

Why hadn't he gotten of her yet? It would be so much nicer to not worry about your life every time you sleep. But nooo. Jace had to be too lazy and scared to even get close to her cage.

Jace shivered when he felt a hand brush against his shoulder but he didn't react to it any more than that. He should focus on what was happening now and not what would be happening.

The campers were congratulating Piper but the girl looked embarrassed about it all. Jace felt like he should console her, but maybe it would make her even more embarrassed. He didn't even know her well so maybe it would be weird for him to just go over and talk to her.

Jace sure as hell wouldn't want some random guy to come and console him, maybe not if the guy was Jason, but still. Over all, it would probably make him even more comfortable and now he was hoping Piper was like that aswell and that he wasn't just leaving her alone when she didn't want that.

But he didn't know her so maybe it wasn't any of his business. He was also sure Jason would go to her soon, they seemed to be close considering all the glances Piper threw in his directions abd the small smules Jason sent her. Or maybe it was because they were the only people they knew.

"Piper and Leo have been chosen by Jason to be his companions for the quest," Chiron announced. "Which leaves the last spot—Child of the owl."

"Well that's gotta be an Athena kid!" Someone who had decided to be very smart today called out from the crowd and Jace resisted the urge to tell them what a stupid conclusion that was. Of course it meant a child of Athena.

Jace knew his half-siblings would all be looking forward to possibly being a memver on the quest, they all had been looking forward to things like that since Annabeth got to go on that quest at twelve years old.

"Well," Malcom Pace (an Athena kid) spoke up from his table. "If Annabeth isn't able to go on the quest than i volunteer as second in command—"

"I want Jace." Jason said with wayyy too much determination in Jace's opinion. He didn't want to go on a quest. Especially not one where he had to free Hera (he wasn't a fan of her).

Jace also knew he wasn't the best person to bring on a quest. People really didn't get along with him that easily. He didn't kniw why but he felt like if he went on the quest, something bad would happen to either himself, or the other three.

He wasn't just going to let other kids get hurt because of him. No. Even if he wadn't friends with most of the campers he didn't want them to get hurt (don't tell that to the unfortunate kids that got in his way in the war). He knew he wasn't the luckiest person ever, definitely not.

His dad isn't that good. His mom's just simply a bitch to everyone. He is a demigod. And monsters try to kill him constantly.

He was never that lucky.

An uproar of people questioning Jason's choice was heard, some yelled and some questioned Jason's choice and Jace was very much on the side of those questioning Jason.

"He's not even claimed!" Someone yelled (faintly in the backround you could hear Jace yell in agreement).

"He may not even be a son of Athena!" Said another one. But Chiron put a stop to all the yelling by whistling so loudly it may even put Will into shame.
