A cold wind carried across the frozen landscape. A lone IceWing walked through the courtyard of the palace. He exhaled, a gust of air clouding around his snout. Looking up to the sky, the usually colourful and lively sky was now dull and depressing. No beautiful snow fell from the clouds. It was empty.

The IceWing, who was a noble prince named Prince Hare, had heard about the recent tragedy in the Ice Kingdom and the mystery that surrounded it. Prince Arctic, just a few days ago, was declared missing when the NightWings had disappeared. Ever since, the Ice Kingdom felt bleak and bitter. Some even felt unsettled about the abrupt disappearance. Queen Vigilance, according to recent letters, had no idea what had happened to Prince Arctic. The IceWings knew that she could be lying, but the majority-- except the hostile Queen Diamond-- felt that the NightWing queen was honest in her letters and was genuinely confused to where the IceWing prince had went.

Prince Hare was selected to fly to the recently-abandoned Night Kingdom and find any evidence on Prince Arctic's disappearance. He wasn't excited at all about this mission, but it had to be done.

He flew and flew, wings eventually starting to ache a little after a very long flight. Hare had made it to the edge of the Ice Kingdom, where he dropped to the ground and began to walk, giving his wings a break. He could see the slight outlines of faraway palm trees in the Sand Kingdom and low-growing flowers on the cold dirt ground. Around him, the breeze was getting warmer and the sky got darker as the night went on. Hare rolled his stiff shoulders, moving the bag that draped over his shoulders to a new spot. He scraped his serrated claws into the soil below him. Permafrost coated the earth. He was close to his destination.

Hare squinted into the distance. Despite being an IceWing, his vision was not that great. He had been prescribed glasses, but hadn't worn them in a while. They felt weird on the bridge of his snout. Into the shadowy distance, the IceWing could see the vast mountains that bordered the Night Kingdom. The mountains were sharp and jagged, like sets of teeth. He shivered. It was not a comforting thought, going into territory that even looked scary. Hare stretched his wings and took off into the air. He soared, watching a swarm of bats flitting through the air, rushing to catch insects.

Before him, the pointed mountains loomed over him, shadows casting on his face. The prince gazed upward at their peaks, wind buffeting around him and roaring in his ears. An owl swooped through the nearby coniferous forest, its haunting scream echoing through the shadows. Normally, a dragon would hear the bustling cities of the Night Kingdom nearby. It was waking hour for the NightWings. But to hear silence from beyond the mountains, it was unnerving. Hare swallowed. Why was it so creepy? He took a deep breath, calming his nerves. The IceWing prince began to make his way over the mountains, when something caught his eye.

A flash of white in the darkness, in the corner of his vision. Hare turned around to investigate it. Walking over, he searched the ground, and after pushing debris aside, he found himself staring at a crisp white bone. He furrowed his brow, inspecting it. The bone was big. Not prey. A predator. A.. dragon, he realized, as he spotted another bone. This time, it was same of the type of bone. They were rib cage bones. He found another, and another, and a piece of a smashed jawbone. Hare began to tremble. This was a violent death. Behind him, the wind howled and tree limbs groaned. He kept searching, desperate for answers, although he knew that the more he found, the worse it would get.
