Before she was done thinking, she felt someone take her hand. As she flinched, due to the warmness of his hand, he smiled.
"Let's get you a table,""Thanks,"
Axel soon came to join them. "Looks like you two are in the same class." He said with an uninterested voice while glancing at Nicky, who was still holding Lilley's hand. Nicky noticed he was still holding her hand and smiled awkwardly, slightly chuckling.
"I'll be heading out now. See you at lunch." Axel said as he nodded before walking out of the class.
It didn't take a detective for Lilley to notice that the way Axel acts around Nicky is completely different from how he acts around her. There is always some tension, but she just scratches the thought because she probably doesn't know him well, remembering not to judge a book by its cover.
Atticus cleared his throat as he placed his bag on the empty desk.
"She's not sitting with me.""Do you have something against her?"
"Do I need to?"
Then silence rained as Nicky just sighed. Being in the middle made her uncomfortable as she fidget her fingers, not knowing what to say. She wondered if Nicky wasn't scared of Atticus.
But soon enough, the was broken when the teacher entered the class."Now, what do we have here?" He said as he examined the situation going on at the back.
As soon as he saw Atticus and Nicky, he sighed out loud. "Seriously, not again. Come on, guys, you're in high school. No time for this childish game."Lilley turned to the teacher, and he looked quite stunned seeing her.
"Oh, you're the new student. Finally! Here, I thought I would be seeing the same faces till I die." He chuckled at the end."All right, everyone, enough joking around. Back to your sits and classes," he said, looking at some selected few. "And new student, take that empty seat." He said, pointing at the seat Atticus bag was on.
Nicky smiled at Atticus while he just rolled his eyes before returning to his seat.
"Atticus, you sit with her since your regular seat mate decided not to come to school today."Lilley turned to Atticus and was surprised by his expression. Yes, she've never seen him smile, but he looked more annoyed from how he was earlier. His eyes darkened as he clenched his jaw. She turned and took her seat. I've been overthinking lately.
"Alright, now that everyone's seated, let me introduce myself. My name is Christopher Mayfield, but you can just call me Chris. It's nice to meet you all." He said as he wrote his name on the blackboard. "Let's have a successful year."
Some time later
Class was over, and Nicky immediately went over to Lilley.
"Hey, what's your next class?""Oh, hold on," she said as she checked her bag for her timetable. As she brought it out, Atticus stood up and looked at Nicky.
"Don't come here every time." He said only that and left the class while they both stared at him. Then she remembered. He was the guy she saw at Miss Julia's office.
Nicky then turned to Lilley with a smile. "Don't mind him. He's actually really nice," but somehow, Lilley begged to differ.Nicky helped her to locate her next class, and to that again, she was really grateful.
"It's too bad we don't have this class together. It'll have been fun."She smiled. "Oh, really,"
"Yeah, but don't be sad, Axel is there too, so you two can get along," he smiled at her.
Lilley couldn't help but notice his sky blue eyes sparkled of light and life. She could feel her heart flutter a bit. How can someone be this cute? She quickly slapped the thought out of her head, literally.
He stared stunned before Chuckling. They both said their goodbyes before she entered the class. And Nicky was right, Axel was there. He noticed her enter and wave with a faint smile, then tapped the seat next to him, inviting her to come seat next to him. She nodded as she went to sit beside him.
"Hey there," he said, staring directly at her, which made her feel awkward. "How was your first class?" He asked as he rested his jaw at the back of his hand, still maintaining eye contact.
"It was okay, though a bit awkward," she answered awkwardly.
He kept looking at her, eyes squinted before raising his head and facing front. His smile was gone.
Did I say something wrong? She thought. She didn't understand. At first, he's nice, but next, his expression changes, and he looks annoyed. She couldn't understand him at all.
"Uh, sorry?" He turned to her as she too was surprised by what she said. His eyes examined her a bit before he said, "What happened?"
"I don't know," she blurted out, to which he chuckled a bit. Her eyes widened. But she just looked back at him, confused. Before she could make any more comments, the teacher walked in and told everyone to settle down.
"Just because today is your first day doesn't mean you can be all noisy and rowdy. You hear that?" He said, warningly. He was very different from Chris, Lilley noticed.
She glanced at him again to see him keep a straight face as if nothing had happened. How many moods does he have? She thought.
Thus, her class with Axel started.
