I was performing my own original songs on a tour for all my albums, I was doing a three hour show in front of 150’000 people. Every single one was screaming the lyrics at the same time as me, I was the number one greatest artist of my friends time. From the time that I was 14 I had been performing my songs at shows. I had made it, I had really made it.

13 years earlier

I stepped out of the black suv at the entrance to the New York airport, I kept my head down as cameras flashed in my face to capture an image of me. My mother and two body guards walked through the airport with me until they weren’t aloud past. I gave my mom a tight hug.

“Tell Phil that I’ll miss him.”

“Of course, darling,” she smiled.

With one last hug I walked into the plane and into my seat in first class.

I was going to Forks to live with my dad and sister, originally my sister and I lived with my mom and stepdad Phil in Arizona, but when my music career took off we planned to move to New York. My sister went to live with our dad, deciding that if she was going to move, she might as well just stay with our dad. Then we moved. Now I was going to move with them for two or three months, just until I embark on my world tour, my first few shows were in Seattle so it just made sense.

As soon as I stepped off the plane I groaned as I saw all the paparazzi, flashed and the clicks of cameras filled my vision. I grabbed my bag from baggage claim and went to the pick up area, trying my best to ignore the cameras following me.

I looked around to all the faces and spotted my sister’s along with another guy, I smiled and rushed over to them, hoping that the paparazzi would go away if they could see I was with my sister and her friend? Her boyfriend? They didn’t.

I gave my sister a quick hug and the three of us rushed out of the airport, and into my sister’s beat up truck. Her and the guy sat in the front while I was in the back.

“So Bells, who’s this?” I gave her face that suggested that he was her boyfriend, she turned beet red and replied,

“He’s my boyfriend. Nova this is Edward, Edward this is my sister Nova,” she introduced us.

“Nice to meet you Nova.”

“Likewise. I believe in the powuer of nicknames, mind if I give one to you?”

“Uh, sure.” I smiled and began to go through the possibilities.

“I’ll call you Ed.”

For the rest of the car ride, the three of us caught up, I could tell that my sister was head over heels for this guy, he was nice enough, but if he hurt her I would kill him.

As soon as we got home, I grabbed my bags and rushed inside to see my dad. I dropped my bags and gave him a big hug.

“Hey kiddo,” he smiled at me.

“I missed you dad!” I grinned widely at him. He didn’t linger, I made my way upstairs and into my bedroom. It was the same that I left it, off white walls with band posters and records on the wall. My children’s guitar was sat collecting dust in its stand. I picked it up slowly and admired it, it still had the old glue stains from when I stuck my entire sticker collection on it and then took them off.

I unpacked all my belongings, I had a few awards on my dresser on display, along with photos of my friends and I. There was a photo of my sister and I when we were little kids running around outside, one had a photo of me at my first sold out show, staring out into the crowd. I could remember that moment so clearly, I remember holding back happy tears that everyone was there to see me, just me. The overwhelming feeling of nostalgia washed over me as I stared at the photo.

The last photo had me at my most recent birthday party, when I turned 18. It was a photo of me in front of a large cake, surrounded by my closest friends. I studied each person, there was my best friend in the world Taylor, my friend Lana, Emma, Selena, and Jen. I couldn’t live without them, especially Taylor.

I went back downstairs when I heard a car pulling into the driveway, the door opened to show a man that I recognized as Billy Black in his wheelchair with his son Jacob pushing him. Once they were inside, I walked over and gave Billy a hug, when I visited, we were always close. I then turned to give Jake a tight hug, we used to be super close friends, he had grown a lot since I had last seen him.

“Damn, am I the eighteen year old or are you?” I asked him playfully.

“Hardy har har, at least I’m not elderly,” my mouth fell open in faux offence.

“Wow Jakey, I expect better than that, you should respect your elders,” we joked a bit more together before we decided to walk around La Push to catch up.

We ended up walking at a beach, it had a few people walking along it, but was very secluded. We talked for what felt like hours, about why I moved back, how life was now that I was famous.

We were talking for awhile, sitting on a bench until a ball landed next to us. My eyebrows furrowed, confusion laced my expression. A big, good looking guy walked up to us, he looked somewhat similar to Jake, but was definitely more my type.

“Hey Jake,” he called over as he approached us. He then looked to me and our gazes met, everything froze. It was like the world stopped, I didn’t understand it, but I couldn’t bring myself to pull my eyes away from his.

As soon as I pulled my eyes away from his he grinned at Jacob and looked back at me.

“I’m Paul, it’s great to meet you.”

“Nova Swan, it’s nice to meet you too, Paul,” I smiled at him, him smiling back at me.

“So what brings you, back?-“ I nodded when he turned the word back into a question, “to forks?”

“Well, I lived in New York and I’ve been pretty busy, I just needed a break and I figured that I would come and stay with my dad and sister until I need to go.” He nodded along with what I had said.

“I would be lying if I said that I didn’t know who you were, Nova. I have to admit that I am very surprised you can back.” I furrowed my brows at his statement.

“It was just a lot easier and I’ve always loved small towns so why not stay in the one that I was born in?”

After that, we talked as a trio for a couple hours before Jacob drove me home and left along with his dad.

I walked into my new bedroom, my eyes caught on the photos that I had placed on my dresser. I climbed into bed and fell into sleep shortly after.

I was finishing my last song of the concert, I had my microphone in hand along with my guitar. I had on a white dress with a cowboy hat, my hair was curled and I wore cowboy boots.

I was looking out into the sold out crowd, cheers and screams filled the air as I stood silently, a proud smile on my face. I didn’t know wether I wanted to cry, laugh or smile, it was the first moment that I knew that my hard work had paid off. That I had made it in the world, and no matter what I was ready.
