Gabe crumbled down the paper with things he had written exhaling out a sharp breath and Mr. Nelson as usual was grounded, he smiled reading the file,
"I leave this case for you both, don't let me down."
"No!!" Archer rose from his seat and shook his head looking at Gabe who tilted his head at Mr. Nelson, he grimaced and said,
"You can't be serious uncle."
"I am." he looked at them and smiled "I am there to provide you both guidance, as we don't have any evidence the case can't be acceded but you both can try your best."
Archer bit his inner cheek glancing at Gabe who had his arms crossed, the brown in his eyes almost burning when he said,
"No offense uncle," his hand crumbled another paper "But I think I will be better without him."
Archer clenched his fingers in a tight fist imagining to crack the very square face of Gabe but after all he was not wrong, the futility of his existence in the department had to led him here, he would be a burden for Gabe who might handle this case perfectly fine without his help. Mr. Nelson clicked his tongue rising to his feet, he gave Archer a pat on the shoulder and one on Gabe's.
"I know what I am doing," he smiled "You both are perfect as a team and for flourishing in your jobs you both have to be supportive to each-other, remember the time Gabe," he turned his face to Gabe who stood still glaring at Archer,
"The time when you couldn't tell if the masked pick-pocketer was a male or female?" Gabe's forehead got crumbled as he nodded "The time we had 2 suspects one university boy and a shop-keeper girl!"
"Yes. Correct." Mr. Nelson turned his face to Archer, his eyes had passion, the very passion he wanted to have in him, this was his dream and even if he had lost his way, didn't mean he had to stay like that forever. He can water the plant, in Mr. Nelson's words Plant of Fruits and flowers.
"You got yourself dark-circles stuck to tell the correct one and Archer was the one who helped you and it didn't even take him 5 minutes." Archer smiled rubbing the back of his neck.
"It was the boy." Gabe sighed and stared into the empty space, his hair the perfect example of mess "I still don't get it, the purse was of LV"
"Easy, the purse owner said she was out from the ATM and if it was a girl she would've stole it anyway."
"Really, I don't get it."
"Gabe, please don't let me down, work as a team and prove yourselves."
"I can't-" Gabe whined
"Don't judge each-other, you both are different and both have different but unique qualities to handle a case."
"Fine..." Gabe sighed through his throat reluctantly smiling at Archer who would've took the moment to crack his face but he was too happy to do so.
"Archer." Mr. Nelson said with his hand clasped around the doorknob.
"Thank you, sir."
"And if that doesn't help you both should remember-"
"Fruits don't grow overnight we get it." Archer and Gabe said together as Mr. Nelson walked out chortling. The silence crept in as Archer felt Gabe staring at him,
"What?" Archer scoffed.
"This is not fair."
"You don't trust me, do you?"
"I do! But-" Gabe sighed and his lips curled up in a crooked smile,
"What are you thinking?" Archer's voice cracked with uncertainty as Gabe pulled him towards the chair,
"I will interrogate you..."
"That's so childish!" Archer yelled
"Mr. Archer Brooks." Gabe read staring at the paper then narrowing his eyes at Archer who wondered if Gabe's actual age was 10.
"Gabe we-" He turned the torture light on his face, for a second his vision blinded his eyes squinted looking at Gabe.
"As far as I know you, 2 years from now when you were 18." He said "You are hiding the real reason why you suspected the boy."
Gabe was right, that wasn't the only reason he suspected the boy, exceptional Archer thought his doubts are exceptional, reason no. infinity why he was always better than Archer.
"You're still stuck on that? Move on Gabe." he mumbled looking away, the seat does feel different even when they're both made out of wooden, uncertainty and the ineffable palpitations.
"No!" he drummed his fingers loudly,
"Tell me Duke, what was it?" A pet name Gabe had established the day Archer had joined as an officer, he used to say how he should be a CEO who lives like a Duke, your stupid face charms half of the Department including the suspects, pick-pocketer and God knows who else would and how Mr. Nelson would say Gabe don't judge him but now he wondered did Mr. Nelson now thought the same that he should've been anything but a Detective?
"Are you that anxious to know?"
"I can't shake off my conviction till I get an answer."
"How far will you go for that? Tell me Mr. Brewer."
"As far as I can, I am not the one to give up."
"Let's grab a cup of tea." Archer said getting up and moving towards the door, he heard Gabe's voice
"WE'RE NOT DONE."
Archer smiled turning back to his red face, the sharp eyes that Archer wondered if he knew how intimidated they made the suspects feel.
"The shop by the street opened a donuts shop, they say they're delicious."
"I will grab my wallet." He said, his voice even.
He rose to his feet and rushed out the room with Archer, Mr. Nelson was talking to one of the Officer who joined a week ago, he noticed them and rendered a smile.
"Mr. Brewer, can you solve this error for me?" Ally, the information handler waved a hand from her seat, Gabe pulled Archer taking him to the table and Ally's cheeks flushed when Gabe bended beside her chair, solving some error, he had learnt these from his elder brother who was a software engineer.
"Silly, how could you spell this wrong?" Gabe asked as Ally scratched her head hiding the flushed face of her, she had liked Gabe since as long as he had joined the Department and yet nothing had happened, she was too shy and Gabe was too...Clueless. Maybe Gabe wasn't perfect after all, not in the matters of love.
"Thank you! Mr. Brewer."
"Don't call me that, makes me feel like an old retired man." He grimaced staring at the blank wall and made a fist.
"Call me Gabe as well, no that would be informal. Call me Gabriel." Archer smiled watching Ally's eyes glued on Gabe as he talked and talked, pure love did existed and it was Ally who loved Gabe unconditionally in his oblivion about her feelings. 3 years of commitment and she still looked at him like before, full of love and care.
"Do you hear me, Ally?" she nodded scratching her forehead
"What will you call me?" she smiled with her teeth and said,
"Gabriel. I will call you Gabriel Mr. Brewer."
"Great, come on Archer." Gabe said pulling him out the Department.
"Do you have to hold me like this?"
"Like what?" he crinkled his eyes.
"Like I am a criminal on the loose." he rolled his eyes standing in the line.
