Atonements are applicable when done to one person, but not when you repeat the same once again to another, it's called a behavior and that's what that freaking Aurora has cultivated in herself. First Rowan then it was William and now his elder brother Cole. Damn that man had the least hope in love and yet Aurora once again disappointed Rowan, to the core and if he admitted then to the shattered pieces of his heart, stupid who still yearned for her sight, for an explanation behind her cruel act. The knife she buried deep in his chest would be gone once she did what he wanted. An explanation, no matter how absurd. He dawdles through the big garden of entrance of the Gray's Mansion, his eyebrows and face tensed in an immovable pattern, fixated for a lifetime, he scoffed standing beside the huge flower pot and drew out a packet of fresh cigarettes. Those becomes a weakness Rowan, never turn your ways to it, do it once wouldn't feel different, do it twice and call it an occasional habit until it traps you secretively in it's poison, you don't see it and you don't want to see it sabotage your health and career. Maybe this will be the first he scoffed at the thought and went on to light it in his hand.
"Rowan." he heard a distinct voice and stood firm.
He won't turn around he had promised himself.
"I know what you're thinking," she says and Rowan keeps the cigarette under his lips, suffocating his senses.
"It's not what you think, Cole is insane, he's-he's acting insane."
"I don't need an explanation, Audrey." he taunted closing his eyes as he maintained his posture "He saw Georgia and Harold together and I tried to help them out, I- I had no idea he would do this."
Turning around with a jerk he saw Audrey flinch back, her face lit in the dark and her eyes, he saw tears formed in her eyes. Why should he care about her feelings? Didn't she desert him all alone?
"This is your problem, Audrey," he yelled "what a stupid name!"
She stood quiet, her eyebrows turned up as her big eyes widened at his tone, she can't become his weakness once again he reminded himself and despite that wanted to pull her into a tight hug, show her with a kiss how crazy she made him feel without her and now in front of her."You left me. You totally cut me out of your life." Rowan breathed, his chest heaving with the intensity of emotions Aurora made him feel.
"My father died, I had no roof over my head," she says "You were busy with your important meetings and I did come for you but something happened." she sighed looking at her feet, her voice brittle than ever. His heart wrenched at the sudden announcement of Mr. Denham's death knowing he was Aurora's only family. But as the saying goes, Anger blinds a person.
"You had time to meet up with William but me?" Rowan asked, his eyebrow raised at her.
"He came to me." she scoffed as if it made her mad, very strangely mad."Your fiancé's watching us." Rowan said seeing Cole stand outside the mansion's entrance.
"I told you. It's not what you think." she repeats and Rowan felt a surge of aggression run through his veins,
"Prove it."
"What?" she crinkled her eyes in annoyance.
"You say it's not what you think, then prove it to me Audrey fucking Bell."
"Rowan." her shocked voice made him feel sated.
"Aurora," he added pulling her towards him, the acrimony reflected well in his tone "Tell me what a fucker you are, how I underestimated your seduction skills."
"Watch your words. Rowan."
She wriggled in his grip and pulled him off her with her hands but as it is said Anger and Vengeance sees not limits, Rowan's posture stays unhindered.
"Your voice, did the off-limits William find it sexy enough to play with?" he asked not understanding what he said but wanting to exactly say them.
"Rowan. Please don't do this." she repeated with her brows furrowed.
"I knew William and I know you. He wouldn't waste time on girls like you. He had thousands of girls dying to sleep with him but I wonder," Rowan said finally losing his mind
"Behind my back, did you find a way to his bedroom floor, under-" A hard slap on his cheek brought Rowan back to his senses. Anger vanished but the bitter speech he spoke left on his tongue. Aurora's chest heaved as her eyes burned looking at him, which looked like disappointment and much more he couldn't figure out.
