The light were lit and Georgia was sitting on the seat, her hands down the table and on her right was Audrey. He blew out a breath and said, unable to hold his smile.
"Miss. Audrey Bell, I don't remember calling you. I mean it's a pleasure, sure." Gabe said and felt Archer glaring at him. More precisely judging him. Mentally slapping himself on the face, he winced towards the chair in front and sat.
"Mr. Cole Gray sent me here Sir." she said smiling with her eyes and God did he love that? He felt as if a part of his heart meant for loving melted, her small chub face carving out the very elegance of her face on his chest.
"I am sorry to meddle," Archer said and mumbled the next words "not as usual for sure, Brewer."
"But you can't accompany Miss. Evans during the investigation." Audrey, rose up and waved her hand at Georgia who watched her. From day 1 of this case, Gabe had this instinct of Georgia concealing secrets from them, secrets that didn't let Gabe sleep at night. Suspects like her were usually the possible victim or accomplice and he wouldn't let her get away with this. Not when he is in-charge.
"I will wait for you outside." Audrey said and left the room.
Gabe's eyes darkened as he turned his head to Georgia, staring at the dark brown eyes of her and to his surprise she didn't break off the eye-contact.
"Nice, I am surprised by your early arrival." he said tracing the edges of the wooden table while keeping the eye-contact still with Georgia.
"I like to be punctual." A pen dropped down and Gabe furrowed his brows at Archer who instantly picked it up, hitting his knee at the corner. Gabe inhaled and maintained the eye-contact. The eyes never lies Gabe Mr. Nelson had taught him, it's the exit to your heart and never lies.
"25% of William's shares were under your name, according to the records, the shares were successfully entered in your name and now the incomes are in your bank account." Gabe said, noticing her eyes were actually black, deep and silent. She was still and her eyes blinked in small intervals.
"Right." she said and pursed her lip, picking on her nails, typical pathetic behavior of a prime suspect. Gabe turned his eyes back at her and smiled.
"You're slicker than I thought." Gabe's tone came out harsh as if he had mocked her. Keeping the hidden hate apart he again smiled.
"I don't understand, you suspect me to be William's murderer?" she asked, her soft eyebrows arched up and Gabe nodded vanishing the smile off his face.
"You impress me with your wisdom, Georgia." he said shaking his head in surprise and she looked down at her hands, a pause.
"I respect your suspicion Mr. Brewer." she said glancing at his badge and Archer chimed in, frustrated Gabe banged his hands on the table making Georgia flinch but she looked back at him again.
"This is my conviction, why would I believe your statement? You had cheated on William."
"Gabe..." Archer voice got tense as Georgia smiled a forced smile.
"I did. But he did the same, nearly and he was surprisingly the person who told me about it." Gabe smiled feeling like he accomplished something after digging up information about William and Georgia's relationship.
"I don't understand, why would you get engaged to him just to cheat?" Gabe's face turned in a grimace as he angrily moved his hands while talking.
"I cheated on him before the engagement," her eyes stared at Gabe's
"Why would you say yes Georgia?" he raised his brow and made sure his detest reflected in his tone, she wasn't the reason he knew but something was fueling to the anger and it was her silence.
"He had kept a condition, our parents wanted us to marry and I didn't regret cheating and that made him mad, so mad that he said he would forgive me if I agree to get engaged to him and before I could refuse, his whole family including mine surrounded us." she said undeterred and Gabe bit hi inner cheek,
"I get it." he said, nodding "So you finished off the case and killed him."
Her eyebrows furrowed as if his words hurt her, she clenched her jaw staring at the empty space and said,
"If I wanted, I would've when he came into my life."
"I don't-"
"I would've when he found out I cheated and Mr. Brewer, when a relationship is forced and a person looks for outer comfort they truly crave then it's not cheating," she said "it's breaking free."
Gabe sighed clenching his hands and unclenching realizing Georgia's words made sense, had determination and truth maybe a little but her eyes didn't lie, just like Mr. Nelson said.
"Who am I to impart wisdom to you Mr. Brewer? You are an officer yourself you know better." her eyebrows arched back at her place and she pursed her lips,
"Even after William told you he would get even with you?"
"Yes, he even sent me her name, her pic and her age."
"Who was she?" his eyebrow turned up, maybe the investigation wasn't a waste of time after all.
"I didn't see her face but I remember William mentioning her name." she crinkled her eyebrows in a deep thought "A-Aurora Denham, age 18."
"Aurora Denham," Gabe recited and gave a swift nod to Georgia.
"Thank you for your statement." She stayed quiet
"May I leave?"
"Archer," Gabe said looking at Georgia.
"What?"
"Take a round outside." he instructed and felt Archer judging him again,
"Please." he added and he left the room
"Shut the door." Archer scoffed closing the door shut after him.
