Chapter One

I ran. Sweat was trickling down my face, I was scared. They were coming, I had to run faster. But it wasn't enough! They were going to catch me. I heard their voices, they were so near! Their black cloaks swifting behind me. I soon found my self not capable of breathing.

"She's still here." I heard their voices, they were more. "Don't run honey it'll be worse."

My breathing depend, I was about to pass out. The pain in my chest was just to much, and the weigh of the necklace made it harder for me to move.

I ran right into a alley, I heard the distant eco of their footsteps, I turned a corner and I fell. I felt the pain in my head as I made contact with the hard floor, I felt the cuts in my arms as I forced my self to a standing position. I tripped again, and as I was about to hit the floor again I found my self in the arms of someone, I fought trying to move away from the person holding me.

"Wait." He said. I looked up and found my self looking into a pair of clear green eyes.

IT'S HIM! I thought! Nathan! He's ok! He helped me up, and led me down the alley, his hand securely around my waist.

I felt their presence before I heard the voice. The necklace began to gleam furiously warning me to back away. NO! I thought. Not him! He has to get away, he has to scape he can't die with me... not him!

"Alisa." One of the followers breathed, "Come with us Alisa, give it to us."

I fought against unconsciousness and the pain and looked straightly at the man who had talked to me.

"Never, you leech." I hissed.

It was then I noticed we were surrounded. A figure stepped out of the circle, and stood right over me. His pale finger traced the blue tattoo that marked my forearm, sending a spasm of pain through me.

"Don't touch her." Snarled Nathan, his arm tightening around me.

The man looked down at him, his cold gaze sent shivers threw my spine, but Nathan did not flinch.

He turned to me, "I'd rather you'd turn it your self Alisa, you'll save yourself from the pain." His soft musical voice was barely above a whisper, but loud enough for me to here it.

"I'd rather die." The truth in my words surprised me, I was prepared to die for this.

"It was your choice darling." He snarled. He motioned for his followers to approach us.

"Cahil." Said the voice of a women, but he didn't pay any attention to her.

Everything went to fast, their mouths turned into a maniacal smile, exposing two pointed teeth.

NO! I thought. The light from the necklace wasn't to strong but none the less it's power was enough to make me fall.

They approached us, Nathan held me closer to him. I have to do something, I thought.

I made my self concetrate on the power of the necklace, letting it's magic run through me. The mark on my forearm began pulsing, and the light from the necklace turned blinding. "Servo nos." I whispered. (Protect us) A bright ray of blue light shot through the object hanging from my neck. It made a silver aura keeping us safe from the hooded figures. The power from the necklace was enough to make them back away, but nothing else, I wasn't strong enough. I was too weak.

One of the guards trespassed the barrier and pulled Nathan away from me I tried to fight in order to get to him, but someone knocked me to the ground. The guard leaned over Nathan... and sank his fangs into his neck.

"NO!" I gasped. I looked into his bright green eyes, and heard the faint whisper of his words, "Keep safe."

I screamed, and woke up breathing hard, I realized that soft tears were running down my cheeks. I groaned from the pain, the memory felt so real! And then it hit, me... Nathan.

I sobbed formed in the back of my throat, I couldn't breath. Nathan was...

Realization hit me and the pain in my chest was unbearable.

The door in my room burst open. "Alisa! Alisa calm your self."

I looked up and found myself trapped in Noelle's concerned gaze.

She grabbed my hands and sqeezed them tightly, while humming words in my ear. "Vigoratus. Curatio sus." (Heal her.)

The pain coming from the necklace turned into a calm sensation, my breathing went back to normal, and I was able to look up at Noelle.

"Thank you." I whispered breathless. I laid my head in her arms, and she began running her fingers through my hair.

"Was it that dream again?" there was concern in her voice, which made me fight back tears. Noelle shouldn't care for me, no one should care for me, it only brought death.

"Yes, it was that dream again."

"You are safe here, Alisa they won't hurt you again. I promise." She squeezed me one more time, and stood up.

"There are things in life Noelle, that you can't know for sure." My voice was barely audible, but I know she heard me anyways.

She looked down at the gleaming necklace hanging from my neck and turned around to leave the room.
