WHAT BETTER PLACE THAN HERE? WHAT BETTER TIME THAN NOW?
-PATRICK KANERiley's POV
It was now exactly seven hours before the puck would drop.
And the nerves were on the edge.
You could honestly feel it everywhere.
The city of Chicago is ready for this game, the fans are ready, but is the team ready for this game, is what everyone's wondering?
"You nervous for tonight?" I ask looking up at Jon, as we stroll through the streets of Chicago hand and hand.
He had picked me up after the team's morning skate, and took me to this little cafe, that he swears by has the best chocolate chip muffins, and I got to admit they are pretty amazing.
"Yeah it's like any game, you don't want apply too much pressure to the yourself or the team, but then again you don't want to lose the advantage you have over your opponents."
"Right, like you don't want to over push yourself or the team to the point where you lose your confidence, but you also don't want to let this opportunity slip through your fingertips."
"Exactly." Jon exclaims
"I think the best way to attack this game is to play it like it's your last, treat it like you don't know what tomorrow holds, give it your all, and just leave it all on the line."
"Wow, maybe you should be the one giving pregame speeches instead of me!" He jokes, flashing me a smile
I just laugh, as my cheeks start to reddened
We continue on strolling through the Windy City.
You know for Chicago being the third largest city in the United States, it's not as packed as everyone thinks it is, at least today it's not. I mean on Monday afternoon, the streets aren't crazy, believe it or not they're actually kind of dead. But just wait after tonight, they'll be beyond visible.
"I have something for you." Jon says once we reach his car
He lets go of my hand, to open the side door, where he pulls out a white, plastic bag, that has the Hawks emblem in middle of.
"Here."Jon hands me it
I give him a confused look, before taking it from him
He notices my confusion, and just urges me to open
I open the bag, and pull out a red, hawks jersey, and on the back it reads Toews.
"I know you always wear your uncle's jersey, but I was wondering if you want to wear mine tonight?"
Aw this takes me back to high school, when the guy would give his jersey to girl before a game
I look at Jon to see that he's nervously biting his lip, his back is pressed against the car, and his arms are folded across his chest.
God he looks attractive.
"Jon." I begin as a grin plays onto my lips. "I would love to wear your jersey."
"Really?" He asks, pushing himself off the car. "You wouldn't believe the shit I got for buying my own jersey."
I just laugh
"Thank you." I say as I push myself up so that I'm able to kiss his cheek

"I can't believe this will be our last game in Chicago." Mia says as the warms up come to an end
"For the season." I remind her
"Yeah but it won't be with all the same people."
"True." I nod in agreement
Trade, that dirty, little, five lettered word, that everyone fears. Everyone knew with the salary cap going down, it would mean players would have to go and no one was looking forward to that. But tonight's not about being a Debbie downer, it's about enjoying our last game in Chicago as one big family.
Before I know it the players are back on the ice, the lights are out, and we're standing for the National Anthem.
The puck is dropped.
And the game begins.
TIME LAPSED
"Come on guys hang in there." Mia yells
We were now in the third period with a little over five minutes to go.
We were leading 1-0 thanks to Duncan Keith's goal in the second period.
"Come on guys get it out of there." This time I yell
Almost as if they had heard me, Saad steals the puck away from Kucherov, who then makes a quick pass to Richards.
"Shoot!" Mia and I both exclaim, on the edge of our seats
Instead of shooting, he waits to make a pass to Kane, who then takes a shot, that's flys past Bishop, and into the net.
Just as the buzzer goes off, Mia and I jump out of our seats, along with the rest of the crowd.
"That's your boy." I tell Mia as cheers erupt throughout the arena
"Yeah it is." Mia smiles, watching him celebrate
She's honestly head over heals in love with him, and it's just so adorable to watch.
The crowd finally began to die down, as the game came to its final minutes.
In any sport especially hockey, no lead is ever safe. And we found that out in 2013, with two goals in seventeen seconds.
Come on guys. There's now two minutes left on the clock and the puck's in the Lightning's zone. All they have to do is keep it in their zone and the cup is ours.
We're so close yet still far away, but they can do this.
Fifty seconds remaining
"Come on hang in there." Mia encourages
Thirty seconds
Saad takes a shot but it goes wide
Ten seconds
Almost there.
