"Hey, what are you up to?" I ask, as Taylor answers my phone call. I took the next flight to the city she's in, hoping to see her before her show tomorrow. I realized that I need to put effort into this too, and I cleared my schedule for a couple of days, rearranging my meetings. I just need to make sure I am there for the show I have coming up.
I spent the entire way home thinking about our conversation that we didn't get to finish. I went over her words repeatedly. I have finally made my decision. I want this. She was right, if we want this, it will work. I need to trust that we both want this. I need to let go of my fears and my insecurities.
"Hey, nothing really, I'm glad you called, though," I hear her voice sound through the phone. I can't stop the smile that spreads across my face, I think I should just fully commit. I am so sick of waiting, overthinking, and running from how I feel. I need to be honest with myself and with Taylor. We both deserve to be happy, and that starts with me no longer holding back. I want this with her, and I am going to tell her that tonight.
"Are you still out with Selena?" I ask, as she has been keeping me updated on what she's doing. I know she went out to the bar with Selena tonight. For some reason, I have Selena's location on my phone, so I know where they are. I'm currently standing outside of the bar they are at.
"I am, but I can still talk," Taylor reassures me, making me smile more. She really does care about me; she really does want this.
"No, no, have your fun, babe," I say, the word nonchalantly falling from my mouth. I only just left this morning, our conversations and last night still fresh in my mind.
"Oh, you really are calling me 'babe' now?" She asks, teasingly. She doesn't sound like she's drank too much just yet.
"Not anymore, if you're going to tease me about it," I shoot back, a smile still spread across my face.
"I was joking," she whines a little bit, and I finally have the upper hand in our conversation. The first time in forever that I have, and I need to end our call. It is freezing out here, and I am dying to see her.
"I know, I know," I respond, slightly frustrated that I can't continue teasing her. Though, the excitement of seeing her seems to be more thrilling right now, "Call me when you get home?" I ask, trying to end our call and not seem suspicious.
"Of course," she responds, "I'll talk with you later, I love you," she speaks sweetly, my heart racing a little faster now. All of this seems too good to be true. Everything seems to be working out for us, finally. Maybe all of the waiting was worth it. I am not going to wait any longer to be with her. I have waited long enough for this.
"I love you," I respond, ending the call. Now, it's time to see her. It wasn't enough having her for one night, I need this. I need to show her I am putting in effort too.
I open the door to the bar, scanning the room. Eventually, I spot her and Selena sitting at the bar on a couple of stools. There is an open one right next to Taylor. She is lost in conversation with Selena now, neither of them seeming to notice me.
I quickly make my way over to where they are seated, taking the open spot next to Taylor. She seems to be drinking an Old Fashion, while Selena seems to have some type of mixed drink sitting on the bar in front of them.
"You guys are saying you love each other now?" Selena asks Taylor, both of them still somehow unaware of my presence.
"Yes," Taylor nods, and I can hear the smile in her voice as she takes another sip of her drink, "I think that it might really work this time," Taylor speaks, definitely not seeming drunk yet. She hasn't seemed to drink much of her drink.
