The day I anticipated finally arrived, as I couldn't help but get ready an hour early before Alice was expected to show up to take us to Seattle.
I had my hair washed, teeth brushed, outfit ready the night before, and still had enough time with the free hour I had to curl my strawberry blonde locks to replace the frizzy waves that were always present once my hair was dry.
I applied more makeup than I usually did on a regular, uneventful day — something I realized I would need more practice on.
After wiping off and reapplying a thin line of eyeliner over my eyelids a couple of times with the only black eyeliner I owned, it finally looked decent enough after the third try and not disheveled like the first two times.
I completed my "look" with a light layer of concealer under my eyes and a thin coat of mascara onto my eyelashes and decided I looked acceptable — at least enough for my first date with my new vampire girlfriend.
Though no matter how hard I could ever try, I knew I'd never look as alluring as the beauty that Alice was — nobody could compare to her angelic looks, charm, and grace she carried so effortlessly.
After that was finished, I pulled my chosen outfit off the clothes hanger that hung above my cracked bedroom door — a sleeveless maroon dress I had tucked away in my closet that I almost forgot I owned.
It had lace along the bottom of the skirt and hit just above my knees — a length that was tasteful enough for me.
I hoped Alice would love it.
"Harper, your friend is here." I heard my mom call out from downstairs.
I then checked the clock, realizing how fast the hour had gone by of me getting ready — making me feel relieved I chose to do everything early.
"I'll be down in one minute," I shouted back.
I quickly slid on my black ankle boots, grabbed my purse and thin black cardigan to wear on top of my dress, and swiftly analyzed myself in the mirror before speeding out my door.
I walked nearly too fast down the steps without tripping and made my way up to the front door. I let out one final exhale before opening it, revealing the alluring beauty of my date waiting outside of it.
Alice looked more stunning than usual — which was saying something truthfully, as I didn't imagine she could look any more beautiful.
She was dressed in a sleeveless, plum purple dress with lace along the hem, and had her short, spiky hair styled up in neat curls that accentuated her sharp features.
"Hey, you!" Alice greeted me, her bright smile beamed.
"Hey, you," I grinned, as we both shared a hug.
