I was lightly pulled out of slumber by the kind receptionist who had given me the sheets and pillow. She smiled at me lightly and chuckled softly.

"Hey honey. It's been 8 hours, but your cousin is finally out of surgery" she announced. I pulled my phone from my pocket and glanced at the time. It was almost 7 o'clock. Her gaze was fixed on me and a light smile was spread across her face.

"Oh jeez. Is he doing alright?" I asked her hopefully.

"Oh he's fine. There's a lot to tell, so I just wrote up a report so you could send a picture to your uncle. Thought it would be a lot easier than vaguely relaying things" she explained.

"That's so kind of you" I told her. "Are visitors allowed?" I tacked on quickly and curiously.

"Not quite yet. The cafeteria is closing and they are giving out free food, so I figured you might want to grab some before going in to see Austin." She informed me.

With a nod, I stood and stretched. "Sounds awesome" I yawned. "Can I keep these over here, or at the desk?" I asked

"Sure. I'll grab them. You go ahead before they close up." She said brightly. She shooed me away hastily with a light laugh.

I nodded and began making my way to the cafeteria with a smile on my face. I ended up getting a bottle of water, and some leftover chicken and rice with gravy and a small salad. My stomach rumbled loudly as I sat down at a small secluded table and began chowing down. I finished and laid my head down on the cool table, and before I knew it, I was asleep again.

As we all know, all good things must come to an end and it wasn't long before I was one again woken up, but this time by an older woman.

"Oh sweety" she cooed at me "I'm the last one out, so I'm afraid you have to leave too" she said gently. "It's almost midnight, would you like to walk with me to the lobby?" She offered.

"Oh yeah, yeah of course" I replied groggily. I grabbed my water and as we went out, the cafeteria worker let me get another bottle of water and an orange juice. As we parted ways, I thanked her for a third or fourth time before going back to the front desk. The same girl sat there.

"Hey, nice to see you again" she grinned.

"I can say the same" I smiled. "How's my cuzzo?" I asked, leaning against the desk.

"I'll tell you if you promise never to say cuzzo again" she scoffed jokingly.

"Well you're lucky I care about him and want to know, then" I retorted wearing a smirk. Maybe at one time it would have just been a reply to get my way, but I really did care about Austin. I really did want to know. So it wasn't a joke, though it was said in a teasing manner.

"Let me call the doctor real quick" she chuckled with a shake of her head. She picked up te phone and tapped a couple of the number pads, but not enough to form an actual phone number. They must be room extension codes. "Yes, hello? Austins cousin is here to see him. Oh. Well can we let this one slide? His fathers last name? Same as Austins. Carlile, why? Oh I see. Well lucky him then!" She laughed. "Okay. Thank you doctor. Yessir. Mhmm. Bye" and she set down the phone.

"Well?" I prodded eagerly.

"Well typically visiting hours are very select, and they're short periods of time. BUT, lucky for you, Mr.Carlile pulled some strings so you are able to stay at all times like a parent might" she informed me with a bright smile.

"Awesome!" I exclaimed. "Let me run get a book from my car and I'll get the room number." I told her excitedly. She nodded and I turned and halfway ran to my truck.
