why is the picture broken 🤨

I blew some of my hair off my face, then sighed.

I had gotten up, gotten dressed and whatever, but as soon as I ran out of distractions, I had laid back down on my bed, brooding.

I was off work today because Leah had called me early this morning and informed me they weren't opening today because of the bad weather. One look outside had told me this was probably a good decision, since I couldn't even see the traffic lights just a couple blocks in front of my apartment window for snow. And I was only on the fourth floor.

But now I had nothing to do. I couldn't walk anywhere, I didn't have a car yet, and even if I did today was not a good day to be driving, especially for me. There wasn't anything interesting in my apartment to do besides watch shows on my computer, which I was not in the mood for. I was desperate; I knew if I sat around too long I would start thinking too much and that thinking would lead to my parents.

I threw my hands over my eyes and groaned, rolling over. I jumped as my phone dinged and vibrated underneath me, shocking me.

My brow furrowed in confusion, but a smile quickly grew on my face when I saw who it was.

Billie

Busy today? Wanna hang?

I responded as quickly as I could get my fingers to type.

Me

Yeah I would love too, except it's not good travelling weather :/

Billie

I could drive over. I'm a safe driver 😉

I blushed, able to easily picture her winking at me the same way she had only a couple days ago in my mind's eye.

Me

Okay but if you crash I'm telling your mom

Billie sent back a "Yes ma'am" then said she was leaving. I squealed, kicking my feet excitedly.

It wasn't our first time texting each other over the past couple of days. She'd messaged me only ten minutes after dropping me off two days ago, just enough time for her to have driven home, asking me what my favorite movie was.

From there, we'd texted back and forth for 4 hours, just asking each other simple questions. I'd been smiling all night. I felt like I'd finally made a real, proper friend, although it had only been a few days. Someone who wouldn't ditch me over a few hours distance, like all my old friends, and I was surprised and glad at the warm feeling knowing this gave me.

I waited impatiently for Billie to show up, just looking out the window the whole time. I tried to tell myself, over and over, that the weather would slow her down quite a bit, and that it was good she was driving safely. After 20 minutes had passed, though, I was bored of waiting and checked my phone again.

Just as I opened it, a text from Billie popped up, asking me to buzz her in. I got up eagerly and did so, then went to sit on the lone cushioned chair in my mostly bare apartment.

I glanced around, suddenly feeling a little self-conscious about it. All I had in the living space was a desk, chair, and then the cushioned chair I was currently sitting in. I didn't have any decorations up or anything; I'd been too downhearted to bother decorating.

I suppose I had a fair excuse considering I had moved in only a week and a half ago.

A knock made me get up. I walked slowly to the door and paused before opening it, not wanting to seem too excited.

I was met with Billie's piercing blue eyes looking directly into mine, since we were about the same height. I smiled to cover my flustered state and stepped back to let her in.

She strode in. I expected her to stop and take her shoes off, but she did no such thing.

"Hey!" I called, putting my hands on my hips. She turned around, looking surprised.

"Take off your shoes," I ordered, pointing at the shoe mat where my three pairs currently sat.

Billie glanced at my sock-covered feet, then at the shoe mat. "They're clean!" She protested, lifting up her foot to show me.

I raised my eyebrows but otherwise didn't move. Billie eventually pouted and gave in, revealing a pair of banana socks.

I snorted at them, but attempted to cover it by looking away. But Billie wasn't fooled, and she pinched my arm.

"Ow!" I protested. Billie glared playfully at me.

"You weren't supposed to see those, so forget it," She grumbled, and I saw a hint of a blush on her cheeks.

I giggled lightly. "Alright, alright. You can come in now," I bowed her in, still laughing.

Billie rolled her eyes, then finally took a moment to look around. Her eyes widened.

"Girl, where are your Christmas decorations?! Where is the tree?" She exclaimed, grabbing on my arm as if she needed the support.

I shrugged. "I haven't bothered decorating. Doesn't seem worth it, since it's just me here," I mumbled.

Billie shook her head aggressively. "Uh-uh, that ain't gonna fly baby. C'mon, put your shoes on, let's go find you a Christmas tree, lights, a nativity scene- the whole damn thing, let's go," She grabbed my arm and dragged me back over to our shoes, quickly slipping hers on while I followed more dazedly.

Baby.
